As good as Sam was,Dempsey would be too aggressive and would force a stoppage just after the midway point.
Impossible to say with the limited footage of Langford. On film there isn't much to separate them but more film may look Langford look better or perhaps worse Langford is actually more proven against top opposition though. Dempsey is bigger prime for prime by about 10lbs, having height and reach advantages I think anyone making a pick on this will simply be going for their favourite rather than anything else
The best version of Sam at HW would give Dempsey troubles IMO....but like PP said with the limited footage of Langford I wouldn´t be so sure.....
Not necessarily .. there is ample footage on both ... I simply feel Langford was the sharper puncher , the faster man and the harder hitter .. Sam could be out boxed by much larger guys but very rarely outpunched by anyone close to his size and weight ... Dempsey would come right at him and I see it as a formula for disaster for Jack ... Sam would put him to sleep .. just too tricky and dangerous ...
You could easily say the reverse about Dempsey doing the same to Langford Certainly disagree about there being enough footage
I would go with Dempsey. Dempsey's sparring partner owns a few wins over Langford. And although given the loss I have read that Stanly Ketchell had Langford near KO'd before time ran out in 1910.
You would have found pleanty of people willing to pick Langford, both during Dempseys title reign and after.
