How do you rate these 2 in order on p4p list? did Langford beat gans in his prime? what did Langford weigh compared to gans ?
Gans had a bad stomach and was boxing a breakneck schedule when he ran into Langford. He was prime years but certainly not all the way turned on. Langford did out-box and out-general him though, which is an astonishing thing for a teenager to get done... Langford was a light-welterweight. I have Langford>Gans. Both are so absolutely elite though.
I have Langford higher, but you could make a credible case for either man, as the P4P GOAT. No, in a word. Gans was fighting a teenage fighter, who was seen as a local level talent, so he assumed that it would be an easy days work. He was drinking late into the night before the fight. That is why Langford did so well against him. It seems that Gans was 131.5, and Langford was 136. If Langford had come in under 135, he would have got the title.
