The only thing I disagree with is that people do have a right to criticize or make moral judgments on such matters.
IIf someone bought all the Picassos in the world, burried them in a secret tomb and died without telling anyone where they are, or burned them in a heap, people would see that as a moral issue.
It's not about "pushing your ethics on others" at all, it's just a case of having an opinion on something.

Personally, I have the money the buy all these fight films but just dont have the level of interest. I agree with what Seamus says above. The early films are often disappointing and not an awful lot can be learned from them. You certainly wont find me whining about not having seem 5 minutes of grainy prehistoric footage.

Yes! You DO have the right to criticize and give your opinion. I can live with that. My post is aimed and directed into those who won't let this go. The ones whose well being, no matter how little the significance, is being altered by another mans decision on what to do with his own possessions.

If I had a problem with people expressing their opinions, I would be falling into the same logical fault that im trying to get some of these people out of.

The portion of my post you quoted came from my genuine will to help people be at a peace of mind with these things in life, rather than myself being annoyed by their comments. If that makes sense...

 

In 1922 Joe Jeanette made a feature film, called " Square Joe", directed by J Harrison Edwards.The Plot revolved around an innocent man,[Jeanette], imprisoned for the murder of a police man ,but later being exonerated ,by a beautiful woman.The action called for Jeanette to fight the guilty man,[played by John Lester Johnson].

Ive never even looked for it as theatrical films featuring boxers are of little interest to me unless they featured opponents of Greb and even then Ive only looked half heartedly on occasion and would not consider myself an expert on what does and does not exist in regards to those productions.

 

Film of Jeanette, "boxing", John Lester Johnson , would be of some interest to quite a few posters, I would imagine, but I am wrong on occasion.

Been reading this thread with interest, and finally got the website to work for me, you can find a ton of good footage on this site... Jack Johnson vs Sam McVey for 3:44min (great stuff- different and more modern than I thought they would be in style), some footage of Johnson standing in front of the camera posing and punching, same with mcvey (although it's labeled as being Johnson). 21min of Cerdan-Charron (alot of training footage and out-of-the-ring stuff), 27min of Carpentier vs Smith (don't know which Smith). Just to name some of what I've found so far-

 

No disrespect, but are you sure about it being Jack Johnson and Sam McVey?
There is footage available on You tube of McVey and Jim Johnson in Paris

 

Perhaps- I just confirmed that it is Jim Johnson by looking on YT... He sure looks like Jack, though- But yes, that footage is up there.

Yes I have-

Several things struck me:

-Langford was pretty quick on his feet (I didn't expect this).
-Langford was very adept at parrying the jab with his right and slipping & countering, something that I didn't expect to see much, if any of.
-It was Langford, not Jeanette, who had the better defense- he was smothering Jeanette (both were doing an awful lot of mauling) whenever Jeanette was punching and generally avoiding most of the incoming fire, as Jeanette was being timed on the way in and countered effectively.
-I found myself shrugging my eyebrows up and nodding in approval and validation of both fighters on several occasions.

After watching this, I would put either of those guys in with ANY light-heavies or cruisers of today; they both looked tough and were much better than I thought they would be on film... Way faster, better technique, much more active/busy... There was no posturing and standing around as is implied about the old fights...

 

Anyway you could get the rest of us to see it? ive wanted to view this fight for a while now, which boxing fan wouldnt, its sam freakin langford!
