Sam Langford gives his body up for another brutal war. This time, being pitted against the young, somewhat green modern phenom CW puncher, Murat Gassiev. How does the war play out? Who wins this fight?!
I'm going to call it for Langford, Gassiev is a giant in comparison, and a skilled one at that, but my bias tells me Langford will find a way to win.
Coming to Langford is a pretty crazy thing to do. You have to see boxing as vastly superior now to pick Gassiev IMO, and even if that's the case, this is still an example of a fight the modern fighter could lose.
Langford lost to lesser fighters. But he KO'd a lot of fighters who were probably better or at least the same as Gassiev.
That's the double edged sword that comes with a lot of the old timers. Higher ceilings and lower floors are commonplace, and picking fights isn't something easy to break down academically even when it looks like it should add up on paper. As far as a direct answer to the thread, hell if I know. Sam knocked out big dudes, but I also don't really like the odds of anyone that size vs Gassiev. I've seen crazier things than either one winning.
