Can you explain the ****ogy more precisely? What exactly was so great about the younger Wills, skill- and talent-wise? What advantages did he have over Ruddock? How would he have responded to a bigger man who jabbed while moving, threw vicious hook/uppercuts, and kept his hands up in a modern fighting position to defend against lunging haymakers?

Stamina (BY FAR) chin, intelligence, speed, boxing ability, etc. Though I'd be rooting for Ruddock to prove me wrong, I just don't see it. None of you have convinced me otherwise, you guys keep repeating the same thing, "Ruddock is to big." This is contradicted by the fact that Langford beat men heavier than Ruddock.

 

What's your basis for saying that he had a better chin than Ruddock? You really think that he would have been able to eat as many of Tyson's hooks and uppercuts? And what do you mean by "boxing ability"? Even guys like Ruddock had tactics and techniques that would have been revolutionary in Langford's day, so "ability" is hard to compare, especially given the size and power gap. Ruddock could crush Langford with his jab alone, if he so chose. Ruddock at his best isn't losing to a 5'7, 185-lb pressure fighter who stalks around the ring with his hands by his belly, sorry.

 

Low guard does not mean said fighter is easier to hit. Some of the greatest defensive fighters IN BOXING HISTORY kept their guard low. It's called BOXING.

 

Risky no matter what but it works much, much better if you're not giving up 8+ inches in reach & height to an adversary with excellent power and hand speed...

 

One person knocked out Langford and that was at tail end of his career, yet Ruddock had the better chin? Yeah, that David Jaco was a real killer! :-(

 

Please tell us-- what does David Jaco have to do with Ruddock's chin? Why don't you go read up on the fight and get back to us.

I have no idea how good Langford's chin was, as he never took punches from 215-230lb punchers with ATG power like Tyson, Lennox, or Morrison. I would bet a great deal of money though that Tyson would have made much faster work of him than he made of Ruddock.

 

I don't believe those excuses anymore. They are just that. Excuses.

 

Why don't you just say this to every post: Bigger is better, skills are irrelevant, old fighters couldn't fight. It would save you a lot of time.
