They weren't professional wrestlers having their first fights.

 

Two of those were professional wrestlers never having had a boxing match.
Another was having his first fight. I said in my post ,referring to Langford.
"I suppose it could be argued that Langford ko'd bigger , class men?"

 

Now, boys, a little common sense here.

That list you quoted ranks punchers in terms of greatness as punchers.

It's not a list of the hardest punchers.

Otherwise, you have Jimmy Wilde (#3 on the list, hitting harder than the Rock (#14). And that just ain't so.

I don't see Sam as being a harder puncher than Marciano, nor would I bet much on him h2h. I think most on here would be surprised at how brief the contest would be.

not read beyond the 3rd post but i predict marciano will be called a slow clumsy fake and sam written off as a fat mw who ko'd incompetents. except perry, he thinks they were both perfect and would have ko'd tyson fury with zero punches simply because of modern fighters inability to stand under hot lights for 15 minutes.

 

I would predict a classic war.

Rocky has the edge on power, and defense.

Langford the edge on speed and reach.

While Langford was very hard to stop in his prime, he went down a lot more than most think. I don't think he could afford to be hit and go down as often as he did vs. Rocky and come out a winner, but you never know.

Rocky's pace is what gets him the knockout here. Both of these guys had tremendous punching power and great chins. I don't know why people turn these things into polar arguments where if you say one guy wins then the other is a bum.

It usually took Langford until the later rounds to knock out good heavyweights and Marciano is an ATG heavyweight with a cast iron chin and a punch to match. A lot of people on here say that Marciano only beat guys because he broke them down with his work rate. That may be true but he had a punch that could end a fight at any time. He left Louis knocked damn near unconcious, Walcott was full on unconcious, and Vingo was left shaking on the canvas bloodied to a pulp. Those are just a few instances where Marciano has displayed his 1 punch knockout power.

Langford was a tough fighter and had a great punch but I don't think his punch was great enough to take out Marciano. Marciano and him would have a great fight but I can't see the Rock getting seriously hurt at any point. A fighter doesn't go from ruthlessly knocking out ATG's like Walcott, Louis, Charles, and Moore to getting beat up by Langford who hadn't fought anyone ever like Marciano as far as power and pace. Charles is the only fighter I could potentially see outpointing the Rock if he was Prime.
