As McGrain says, they only have 10 fights according to Boxrec and unfortunately most fights are not reported by Boxrec. Bob Fitzsimmons has only 99 fights recorded on Boxrec when it's believed he may have had around/over 300. If a top 10 ATG only has a third of his record complete and 200 fights missing, you can imagine how many other fights Boxrec has missed.

Well clearly you feel you are one to judge because despite all the facts and evidence being thrown about in this thread you are still arguing and using Boxrec to try and justify your arguement. If you accept that your knowledge of the old school fighters isn't great, then you should look to learn from some of the information being branded about rather than trying to argue with it from a position with limited-knowledge [by your own admittance].

 

I think Wills top 10 HW is debateable, but he had good competition.

I think BJW is a top 25 atg. he could be outboxed, but as a welterweight the guy gave up a lot of weight, he was able to take on LHWs/180lbers and hold his own... He is the hardest punching WW ever, and that includes hearns and robinson.

 

I have Barbados Joe at #21, lock for top 30 IMO, Wills at #11 and lock for top 15, and Langford #4 myself and a lock for top 4. But they are all very valid arguments. It's well worth studying more old-school fighters, Burley is another ATG that often goes under the radar and is a top 20 ATG [as McGrain will tell you ].

:good... While trying to portray himself as impartial, he has an obvious stance on Langford being overrated. If I were as naive as you say you are about Langfords career, all of these facts being thrown my way would sway my thoughts to "hey this guy really was damn good". I mean what type of responses are you looking to get?

 

Possibly top 50, ranking him as #21 is uproariously hilarious.
