Sammy Langford claimed many world titles. He claimed at Middleweight (1907-11), Light Heavyweight (1911-13) and Heavyweight (1909-11, 1912-14, 1914-15,1916-17 and 1917-18).
After the Gans fight he was actualy anounced as the new lightweight champion but was striped when it emerged that he was over weight by half a pound. He came frightningly close to being the lightweight champ. Welterweight, he could verry easily have been awarded, arguably should have been. He seems to have carried Ketchel and still held a slight edge on him. The ND fight was aranged as a precursor to a longer fight with the title on the line. The murder of Ketchell robbed him of his opportunity. Some sources suggest that he was under the limit when he beat O'Brien and he did call himself "the lightheavyweight champion" after the fight. So yes, his weight hopping antics are prety incredible. Perhaps what is most remarkable, is tha fact that he was able to beat Gans and draw with Walcott while just a raw teenager.
