sam was a great great fighter, excellent clips...... but he never would have beaten jack johnson on his best day....and both sam and jack knew that deep down. I studied the film of langford and jack for the past year and came to the conclusion months ago sam never ever could have beaten jack johnson. I would like to add I get really pissed when people use that sam "refusing to fight jeffries" quote considering it happened in 1904 when sam was just 140lb(80lb lighter than jeff!) and had not fully grown into the 185lb machine he would later become. I doubt that version of sam says hes scared of jeffries,.
He may not have, however he would be far from an easy assignment, his strength and inside game was arguably as good as Johnsons, of course his power would lvevl up the fact he's an ever so slightly less great fundamentla fighter than Johnson. Johnsons defensive brilliance and durability would probably answer more questions than otherwise and he'd squeak a decision in a closely enough contested fight.
