Jack Monro claimed that he bested Sam McVea, but he did not make it clear whether it was in an exhibition or an actual fight. Did this event take place at all, and if so can any light be shed on it?
After Munroe's loss to Johnson the press stated that Munroe had learned NOTHING of boxing in his 3 years in the ring. McVey would eat him.
That was technicaly true. A decision was given for Munro, though it was probably a bit of a dirty deal. Jeffries was outraged because he had been told that no decision would be rendered.
WHen did he claim this? By the way, Monroe was an absolute icon of courage and a true hero. And this much isnt even debatable!
Jeffries entered the exhibition with Munro on the understanding that it was just that. Jeffries probably wasn't dropped. The refferee gave a decision in favour of Munro. To that extent, Munros claim was legitimate. Jeffries and Bob Fitzsimmons later visited the refferee in his hotel room, and tried to get him to change his decision to no avail. David Haye reminds me of Monro in many ways, because he got his title shot mainly by getting under the champions skin, and creating media interest out of relativley little.
Going into the Jeffries fight, Munroe had won 8 of his 14 fights. Haye had won 25 of 26. Prior to the Jeffries exhibition, Munroe did not even have manager. Five of his wins were over men with no verifiable form at all. Two were over men who were respectively 1-4-1 and 1-0-0. The other two were over a totally shot former great ,[Sharkey], who had won ONE fight in the last four years , and had not fought in two years. And, an alcoholic, thoroughly spent Maher, who had won ONE of his last six fights, that by dsq over the abysmal Joe Grim ,who was 3-2-1. You equate this man with Haye? I don't see the comparison. I very much doubt that Munroe could beat Adam Booth, Haye's trainer, and I am serious.
Munroe was fat and out of shape for Johnson. Judging of the film on McVey, he wasn't close to being a sweet scientists. He advanced and basically relied on a clubbing left hook.
Laughable as usual. You have not seen any film on Munroe clown. Question for the feebleminded one. How come Johnson could not finish an out of shape Munore? PS: What's with you love affair with Haye. It must have been hard for you to pick him over Wlad then watch his safety first withdrawal from the fight. For some reason, I think you really like the mouthy African fighters who talk, then rip off the fans by doing very little in the ring. And of course who can forget their excuses when they lose!

I had a bet on Haye at good odds, he under -performed drastically basically he was not prepared to take a chance, and go for it, no excuse for that he stunk the joint out.. Neither was the Champion prepared to go for the stoppage he was content to fight his usual safety first boring fight ,that's why he cannot get US TV coverage, the fight was sold on the back of Haye not Wlad. I don't like mouthy fighters of any colour , can't stand PBF, we all know you hate what you would term bad n*****s, but tolerate those who knew their place eg Langford. Question for the bigot, how come you cannot spell MUNROE? How come you always type when he meet him ,instead of met him? How come you always type supper middleweight instead of supermiddleweight? How come you always type Vitlai instead of Vitali? How come you are so illiterate? Do you come from " DUELLING BANJO'S " country?
THis is not true ... McVey had a very good left jab and could box .. the image of him s some crude slugger is way off ... in fact , in his bouts w Langford he was the boxer every time ..
BS! How do you he did not try to stop Munroe? Show us the link. Another lie. Johnson was not only mouthy, but disrespectful. Yet you love him. Now please explain why you are contradicting yourself with the above statement. It does not take much effort to paint you into a corner, and expose you for what you are. A bigoted old man who remains fixated on certain types of fighters with a never ending list of excuses for them.
HE, Sam Langford said Sam McVey could not jab at all and called him bow armed. Was he wrong? On film, Sam Mcvey has nothing close to a straight left or jab. What you can view is a crude slugger with some athletic ability McVey won his fights based on power, strength and stamina, over out boxing his opponent with a jab. I have read some of McVey vs, Wills, and Langford and he in fact complains to the ref! To classify McVey best, he was a puncher, who relied heavily on a clubbing left.
Unlike you ,I back up my statements with primary sources. Here is the link as requested, with several mentions of Johnson, being content to punish Munroe ,and not trying for the ko. http://news.google.com/newspapers?i...pg=5193,5297234&dq=johnson+munroe+fight&hl=en Now, don't you feel the complete ****** that you are?
