Contemporaneous accounts of Monroe-Maher seem to suggest that Peter quit a fight that he was winning, having floored Jack heavily at the end of the first round who perhaps being saved by the bell.

I think the fact that the paper states ,"it could be readily seen that Munroe had not learned the first rudiments of boxing in the three years he had been in the ring",

is very revealing , given he had allready fought for the world title.

I should have thought the detailed description of Munroe's lack of ability would give a clear form line as to how he would do against McVey.

I made a statement that one of the protagonists in this thread, ie Munroe was badly outclassed and carried by Johnson.

Mendoza challenged it ,and asked for proof.

I provided it ,anything wrong with that?

This link has a newspaper report of the Maher v Munroe fight, and an interview with Jeffries .Jeffries states the fight was fixed in Munroe's favour ,and that Maher has been just that, a has been for several years.

Jeffries further states that a good lightweight would beat Munroe who is not even a second rater, and is unworthy of a title challenge.

Rather makes you wonder why he defended against him just 9 months later?:huh

The link below gives an appraisal of Munroe's chances the night before he was due to fight Jeffries ,it also gives an opinion on his performances leading up to his title challenge.

Basically it states Munroe had no business being in the same ring as Jeffries ,and that his wins over Limerick,Maher and Sharkey were of no value because Limerick was a nobody ,and Maher and Sharkey were totally washed up.

" Johnson hammered away at Munroe but none of the blows had enough force. " >> Sounds like he tired to end things a few times. Keep reading the only parts and pieces to make yourself feel better. Munroe was out of shape for this fight.

He did not tire to end it .

The whole fight is there to be read , I haven't picked out parts out the entire 6 rounds are there, can't you absorb it?

You asked for proof that Johnson did not try and stop Munroe, I provided it,you are embarrassing yourself.

    The Head line below.
"Johnson Makes a Punching Bag of the Butte Miner For Six Rounds"
    The byline below.

" Colored fighter seemed satisfied to out box the White Man rather than trying to knock him out" .

    Extract from the fight below.

" For the last 3 rds he was at Johnson's mercy and it seemed as though the big black fighter was under a pull for he did not cut loose, several times when he had splendid chances to stop his opponent ."

"Johnson did not appear to want to finish Munroe, and often boxed and fiddled around him without hitting him."
Anyone with a lick of sense would interpret that as Johnson was carrying Munroe. The whole 6 rounds are there for anyone to view.

HAVE YOU ANY NOTION HOW RIDICULOUS YOU APPEAR TO THE REST OF US ? :patsch

Below is a link to the McVey /Langford fight in Australia on Boxing Day 1911 it states that McVey "outboxed" Langford. McVey may not have been a sweet scientist,[correct spelling], but he had more than," a clubbing left hook".
