Peter was down to what is probably his best weight of 243 lbs. That was his weight for the Wladimir Klitschko fight as well. He won by a brutal knockout in the 3rd round against a no hoper Marcus McGee (22-17-1). It was Peter's first fight under Top Rank. Let's hope that he can stay in shape, because he could make for some nice match-ups against anyone other than the Klitschkos.
ewww, really? ****, God bless sam peter but what's the point. I mean i guess he could get back to contender/gatekeeper/journeyman status but he will never beat a respected champion and he's just not that good. If he's fighting for money, grinding it out like a job great. I can respect that. If he thinks he'll be anything more he's delusional
Back down to 243...... SO WHAT? It's a little too late for that to really matter now........ Peter should've been 243 lbs. since 2006, when it would've really counted........ At any rate, weight really was not Peter's main problem..... Peter's problems' were---he can't fight for spit..... His skills stink.......... I seriously doubt he'll develop his much needed skills......... MR.BILL
It's sad that 243 is "good" - but for Peter, it is. He didn't look svelte in the McGee highlights...but he looked better than he has. I'd say somewhere in the 230s if he's serious about contention is a good idea.
History tells us he won't be able to maintain that weight. He just fought some bum and weighed 243 yet with the exception of Wlad Klitschko he was overweight for just about all his fights against good opposition. He was all over the place in weight.
if Sam can keep it down thats a start. But he needs to develop his boxing sckills more. He was KOing guys left and right until he started to get in the ring with the "A" class fighters. Thats when he started having trouble and was very very inconsistent. Im not ready to give him props YET. maybe in time
It might just end up that Peter's finest moment was beating Maskaev for the WBC title in March of last year. That's not saying much but when you consider the fact that most guys never come near the heavyweight championship of the world I suppose it's something. As far as going forward is concerned, Peter dug himself a hole that was the direct result of not conducting himself like a professional. Luckily for him the heavyweight division operates in a manner in which you're really only one good performance away from a title shot. He could always get another crack at Wladimir or the winner of Haye/Valuev down the line (notice who I left out ) but with guys like Povetkin, Chambers, and Arreola in line he's pretty much effectively frozen himself out of contention for at least another year or so. Peter should face a guy like Tony Thompson and get his act together weight-wise.
Nah... I'd say hurting Wlad in a loss > beating the decomposing Oleg for the title and getting hurt yourself in the process.
Decomposing or not, Oleg was champ and hadn't lost a fight in 6 years. Peter did the job that night. Peter lost every minute of the Wlad fight other than the 3 knockdowns and 2 of them weren't really solid knockdowns in the first place. The first one was a clubbing shot that caught Wladimir on the back of the head if my memory serves me correct.
:thumbsup He needs a no-nonsense, kick-your-ass-or-tell-you-to-GTFO trainer. A Roach, or better yet a Steward (I say that only Freddie didn't assert himself enough with Toney, though he's been pretty firm with Pac).
