Lots of people picked up belts in the 80s,it was a very hard to call period of time in WBA heavyweight history. Especially with the cocaine flying around and the Don King options, it was very tumultuous. Weaver, Dokes, Coetzee, Page, Tubbs, Spoon and Smith all held it at some point. Almost all lost it by ko as well. I could see Peter being part of that merry go round.
He'd have been very, very lucky indeed to have found an Eastern European World Titleholder, to take a belt from in the 80s - a chinny, 39-year-old one, at that!
Luck ran a long way for the HW scene in the 80s. Luck meant some boxers spent more time snorting coke off of strippers than training. Luck meant some boxers had a mental breakdown on the way to the ring. Luck meant some boxers traded bombs in round 12 instead of playing it safe. Luck meant the judges favoured the losing fighter. Luck meant Spoon went from being one of the most gifted heavyweights in history to a 1st round ko victim.
THIS. He might grab a belt...& then go full Tubbs & come in 25lbs heavier & lose the 1st title defense
Setting both Holmes and Tyson aside, as the dominating forces of the '80s (as I think most people would agree that a Peter win is unlikely against either of them), and assuming he'd be required to earn an appropriate ranking and sustain it, Peter would need a win over two (maybe three) of the following, to pick up a belt... - John Tate - Mike Weaver - Michael Dokes - Gerrie Coetzee - Tim Witherspoon - Pinklon Thomas - Greg Page - Tony Tubbs Anything is possible. His best chance is in the early '80s via the WBA; or, the WBC from '84-'86. The arrival of Mike Tyson means Peter doesn't have a realistic chance of getting a look in against Berbick, Smith or Tucker. The same goes for Spinks. If Peter hasn't won a strap by late '85 / early '86 then he's not going to.
Incorrect. He'd need a win over one fighter to win a belt, and not necessarily any of those listed...like how Tucker did it.
No, they aren't. But, whatever! *yawns I hope your bedside manner is chirpier than your posting style, Dr. NoNeck.
