All these fools claiming Peter kd Wlad 3x need to listen up. I asked a qualified ref, who is experienced amateur boxing official with USA Boxing (14 years) and completed a yearlong professional officials` clinic with the California State Athletic Commission, this question: QUESTION: I have a boxing question. Rabbit punches are obviously illegal but what if a fighter contorts himself in another direction or put his head down. Is it legal to hit someone in the back of the head at that point? All these Scam Cheater nuthuggers on ESB say it is. For example, consider the Wladmir Klitschko-Sam Peter bout. Peter hit Klitschko in the back of the head several times even scoring two knockdowns in the fifth round as a direct result. Klitschko and Peter were usually engaged in clinches when this happened. What are your thoughts on this fight and the rule in general? Thank you once again, KobeIsGod :yep Hi Kobe, It is always illegal to hit a boxer in the back of the head. If a boxer turns his or her back or lowers the head in an illegal manner, then it is up to the referee to caution, warn or penalize that boxer. The Klitschko-Peter fight featured a couple of inappropriate rulings, in my opinion. Peter should have been penalized for clubbing Klitschko in back of the head, not rewarded with knockdowns. I hope this helps, Kobe. Thanks again for writing! WALD HATERS HAVE BEEN OWNED!!!
I actually like Wlad, I think he's an excellent boxer though that much of a fighter if you can look into the distinctive difference between the two. Either way Wlad is a class above Peter though Peter's game seemed to be sharpening up in his rematch win vs Toney.
When you turn the back of your head toward a fighter, a fist is a much more effective deterent in preventing this type of idiocy, than waiting for an incompetent official to do his job. The refs don't prevent WLAD from breaking rules, ever. He pinned down IGGY's foot countless times in his most recent fight...let me guess it's only illegal if you are warned... When WLAD learns to stop holding and pinning feet down, you can protest more effectively about his opponents rule breaking. Besides it's amusing that an elite and technically sound HW like WLAD is so unable to prevent blows to the back of his head...really, WLAD just needs to find better defense than grabbing and blocking punches with the back of his head... Listening to the KLIT-ites tell it...the odds seem to be stacked so unfairly against KLIT that you'd think it was ruled he had to fight PETER with his back turned to him.
Here's the trouble. Peter has been known to aim and throw rabbit punches. He landed several vs Wlad but was not docked a point. Yet Peter touches James Toney behind his head and its a quick one point deduction by the ref? It seem the ref helped Sam Peter in the Wlad fight by letting him foul. If the Ref took no crap on fouls, Wlad beats Peter much easier than he did.
well u got people claiming it's legal as long as wlad turns his head and bends down. i wanted to know the rule and there it is. :hi:
That's pure bull**** man. Watch the first knockdown. The punch behind the head was nothing but a follow up to the left hook that actually sent Waldo spiraling to the canvas. The rabbit punch happened because Sam threw and as he threw Waldo was turning his back to him looking for the canvas. He was already on his way down.
But he also said a ref should warn someone of illegally turning their back or lowering of the head & I swear I remember Wlad kinda turning & looking to get away when he took a rabbit punch & went down. So Wlad should have been ordered to fight & not run with a warning.
Damn right. Everytime Waldo got close to Sam he put his arm around Sam's left arm and turned his back to his right hand. Everytime. And not once did he get a warning.
Excellent post, many fail to realize that Wlad is a subpar operator on the inside, he (like many well schooled but improperly cultured in all aspects of boxing) Euro heavyweights lack the proper spacing needed to execute combonations to the body and head while in close qauters. I noticed that about most of Manny Stew's fighters. With all the **** people have given Taylor at least he has the balls to bang on the inside....Cintron and Wlad both lack this essential skill.
true. he should have been warned and probably deducted a pt or 2 but peter is the one who could have been dq'd. u are not allowed to hit on the back of the head at any time. i agree with all of this but your avy needs to go :-(
