Sam Peter or 'What a hype can do'

i know its easy to say now, but ive never rated sam peter, never.
the comparison early in his career to a young george foreman were a joke and an insult to big george. in my my book, sam peter was the worst heavyweight ever to hold a title belt. look what he did against vitali klitschko, in a fight he could win he turned up out of shape, did'nt try much, then just quit as the fight started going away from him. and to think this man held the same title as jack dempsey, rocky marciano and muhammad ali.

Sam Peter Fought the best and lost, it happens. He has not lost to bums only to best at his prime.

 

we will see what haye is when he fights klitschko. when john ruiz fought haye he took a beating but never stopped trying, his corner had to save him from himself, unlike peter, who just quit because he could'nt be arsed anymore. watch the dvd, peter comes back to the corner shaking his head, he says "thats it" the corner cant believe him, but have to stop it. sam peter is a disgrace to the heavyweight title.

No disrespect but is this even news? Look at Peter's opponents prior to him getting a world title shot. He had fought no one of any note or any significance. He fought a who's who list of journeyman. And every time Peter got by on sheer brute strength and extremely crude technique.
Remember his KO of Jeremy Williams? That was essentially the highlight of his career. Peter's so called power was a joke. He can't put any punches together to save his life and his technique is horrendous. Even when in training camps he refuses to listen to his trainers and continued on with his caveman approach to all his opponents.
He did the same vs Sykes another journeyman -who couldn't crack an egg- and simply bludgeoned him into defeat, fouling incessantly along the way with rabbit punches in what was a very ugly TKO.

Il give it to Peter when he was in his early twentys and around the 230 range he seemed to possess very raw potential. But as he's got older he's just turned into a fat overweight slugger ( if you can even call him a slugger ) with the boxing IQ of a rock.

 

So, one quittage? So fuken what.. He was facing Vitali Klitschko not some China chinned Brit.
And wtf are you stuttering still, Ruiz is the worst fuken hw Fighter ever. what a joke. He is not even a fuken boxer. his strategy to win and better yet to survive at ring was Wrestling.

 

Ruiz in his prime would shut Peter out.

Anyway, as for Peter, he did have raw power but that was his only saving grace. As impressive as the Williams knockout was, you have to consider that it was an absurdly wild shot and pretty lucky to land, and Williams was a limited fighter at his peak. Peter's hype came from that one fight - It "earned" him a ridiculous comparison to George Foreman, he won Dan Rafael's prospect of the year and many people did consider him a future top level heavyweight, but he was always very limited. His straight punches look like they have the power of a an Ivan Calderon jab because he's so limited technically. The only time he's shown power, was when he swung with his entire body. As for his chin, that was only impressive in one fight, basically. Though his biggest faults were his technical ability. Incredibly flawed.

In a few years when people look back on his career in hindsight, they'll watch the Williams KO and wonder whatever happened to him, maybe blaming weight or say he was unlucky to fight both Klitschkos. The fact is though, he was probably lucky to knock Williams out in such a fashion and pick up a world title. He was a poor fighter at his best and could never live up to the hype certain people set for him.

The reason why people hate Peter is because of what happened against Vitali Klitschko in 2008. That was such a hyped fight at the time, and easily the biggest the division had seen in a long while. Lots of people don't forgive him for being so out of shape and disinterested in the biggest fight of his life.

As for the rest of his career, well you have to consider that he has the following achievments on his record:

1./ Knocking amateur standout Jeremy Williams out cold
2./ Giving Wladimir Klitschko a great fight in 2005
3./ Winning every single round against James Toney in 2007, becoming the second fighter to put him on the canvas.
4./Knocking out Oleg Maskaev

He also beat other decent fighters throughout his career. I agree he did not train properly, disrespected what many of his trainers told him etc. However whenever he was in shape he gave his opponent one hell of a fight. George Foreman/Bernard Hopkins/Roy Jones Jr all said they rated Peter very highly in his heyday. They would hardly say that if he was an awful fighter.

Peter is potential never fulfilled. His raw power, and once incredible chin were the sort of assets any boxing training loves to work with.

I don't think you can name another 3 fighters in the top ten, discluding the K bros, who have better records than he does? Povetkin? Chagaev? Thompson? Arreola?

 

Why i would be bitter? I have nothing on Peter.

But why you keep calling him fraud? he is not fraud he fought fuken Klitschko Brothers 3 times. and he actually Beat Reigning Champ to get his WBC belt, he earned his shot and became Champ.

Peter never lived up to the hype but he was a solid enough contender for a number of years. He was limited skill wise but on occasion he showed a hint of skill, like the second Toney fight. His power and chin were good, maybe not great but good. He had a few nice wins in his career and most of his losses were to Klitschkos. Weight issues hurt him like Chambers and the first Toney fight.

He was basically, a limited brawler with good power, chin, and heart. Most eras have these types of fighters-dangerous but beatable. I saw Ruiz mentioned, at their best I'd put my money on Ruiz to beat Peter everytime.
