Really? Thats good to hear, cause I remember seeing a pathetically slow Oleg in there & I'm a Maskaev fan. If he was doing fairly well, I think a bigger & stronger Golota will really get Sammys attention. McCline did.
Golota will probably fold it up I'd pick a prime Golota by asswhipping DQ loss against Peter (batters him for 9 rounds then hits him with a 3 punch combo to the balls for the DQ) Nowadays, Golota will probably just freeze up and get TKO'd.
I've got a real opinion about the Maskaev-Peter fight: I did think Maskaev did fairly well prior to the stoppage. He was slow, yes, but he never was speedy gonzalez. Peter wasn't doing anything stellar in there, and especially in the third/fourth rounds, I saw Maskaev landing some real decent punches. I was getting excited at the prospect of an upset (he responded to a big Peter right with a staggering hook in the 3rd) but it was not to be. But Golota is completely different- faster, tall, stronger. Problem is, he can't fight backing up. The question is- can he back up Peter? Can he still use lateral movement over a long period of time? I doubt it. But I'd like to see him try.:good
I like Golota, but the man is not much faster than Maskaev, just as old, and no more powerful. Golota has showed improvement over his last couple fights, but Peter will more and likely be too much for him at this stage in his career. Peter might actually have every advantage going in, more power, stronger chin, greater heart, faster hands, and while Golota has a pretty good jab now adays, so does Peter and both men are slow on there feet, so wheres Golota's advantege in this fight?
Vlad will knock Peter out, Vitali will knock Peter out. Golota is old and over the hill, but in a fair fight he should beat Peter. McCline kicked Peter's arse.
As far as technical skill goes, Golota has a big advantage over Peter. Peter throws very wide looping punches and has terrible footwork. He has no clue how to cut off a ring. If Peter can't ko Golota early and the fight turns into a boxing match, then Golota has an excellent chance to win the longer the fight lasts. I talked to Buddy McGirt about Andrew and he said that he was amazed at what great condition he was in. He also said that Andrew can be light on his feet. Don't underestimate Andrew's skills and strengths. He is much more skilled and has better speed than both Maskaev and Peter.
Fair enough, but I also read that Golota looks much better in camp than he does in the ring, I could honestly believe that. Watch Golota against Ruiz, he was very stiff and slow for the most part, and in most fights the early rounds are his worst, he looks very stationary and easy to hit, something Peter should be able to take advantage off IMO. I am very much looking forward to the Peter/Golota, it should be very interesting, but I would be shocked if it goes past 6, I dont think Golota will be able to handle the pressure the heavy handed Peter will put on him.
You make some good points, but I think if Golota can keep that monster off of him til the mid rounds, Peter's flat footed, out of steem, wild swinging, coupled with minimal defense, will be where Golota starts to take over, and land the overhand right with regularity. Golota is a not only a powerful puncher, but he's a good boxer who has very good stamina, especially for being 40 and 6 foot 4 and weighing around 245. When it comes to training and conditioning, Golota is light years ahead of Peter. And when it comes to skill level, finding an opening, and getting your shots to land, Golota is also ahead of Peter by quite a margin. And I don't think Golota is too far behind Peter in power. Peter probably has some more thrust to his shots, but Peter's power is way overrated, as we've seen. And Golota can drop a sturdy chin with one good shot, as he did with Ruiz, and many others. But Peter's early attack and wreckless aggression (shots to the back of the head) will be what Golota will have a hard time getting past. I hope Golota don't get that deer in the headlights look once (if) Peter nails him with a clubbing shot. But obviously his best bet is to keep the jab pumping right in Peter's face to keep him from getting a chance to hurt Golota. That'll be a tall order, and that is what I think the fight's outcome hinges on. Regardless of who thinks what, I think we are in for a great fight between two powerful punchers who both will lay it all out there.
Good post Heavy, but you said if Peter lands a clubbing shot? He most definitely will, Golota's defense is no better than Peter's, the only difference is that Peter has a good chin to take most good punches. I'm not saying Golota has no chance against Samuel, but his chances are not very good when you look into both mens strengths and weaknesses. Golota, as you pointed out, has a hard time dealing with an early attack, Peter is one of the most powerful Heavyweights in the division, who is aggressive, and will take a shot to give one. I see the fight going a couple different ways, but my money is on Peter taking Golota out early, Golota history against powerful, aggressive fighters aint too good at all. I see Golota getting caught early, but somehow getting through the first round, the 2nd round being competitive, with Golota holding his own with behind the jab, the 3rd, I see Peter throwing caution to the wind and looking to end his man, Golota will try going toe to toe with Peter, which in the end will be his biggest mistake, Peter will win by 3rd TKO, when an overhand right hits it's mark.
Punisher33 you are not only knowledgeable but also a gentelman! Two things that are sorely lacking on this board. You are right that Peter should be the odds on favorite. My thing is that having met Andrew I am a fan and I want to see him do well. And being objective as I can, I know he is capable of it especially if Peter does not take this fight seriously. Golota is better than the fighter he was against Lewis and Brewster, and if Peter does not prepare hard for this fight. He may look up and realize that it is the 12th round and he is out of breath but needs a knockout to win. If Andrew's head is screwed on straight for once in his life then Peter is in for the toughest match of his life!!!
Ugly fight, yet still possibly fun. I lean toward Peter by mid-rounds KO, but with those two, anything could happen.
Golota will get KTFO in round 1, just like he did against Lewis and Brewster. THsi fight is a waste of time.
