After watching Sam Peter win a title last night, Kellerman mentioned he was the first Nigerian Heavyweight "Belt Holder", I started thinking of Ike Ibeabuchi and wondering what that fight may have looked like in Ike's prime. I am going to put Ike's prime somewhere around his war with Tua and his brutal Ko of Byrd and we will say Peter is in his prime right now. So who do you like.

 Couldnt have said it any better. This fight would have been one of the worst ownages in African history. Ike would beat the voodoo **** out of Peter and feed him to one of his pet Lions. His fight with Maskeav was a joke. Iv seen pub drunks with more technique than Peter.

Ike was brilliant and would have been Lennox's successor had he not gone looney tunes. He destoryed everyone put in front of him. It was one of the few times a Mike Tyson comparison was legit. Ike would have KOed Peter in 4 were he the champ today (and he would have been as he's the only guy I could have seen that would have totaled a Manny-retooled Wlad).

I do think in this case that Ibeabuchi was probably better in every single conceivable department of the sport, except maybe pure physical lifting-type strength.

I highly disagree. Ike has become vastly overrated on this forum. He was losing to Byrd on all three cards before catching him. Ike even said after that fight that he was getting very frustrated because he couldn't hit Byrd. Byrd really started making Ike look like slop before he pulled a stupid move and put his back on the ropes. Also, MOST people who have watched Ike vs Tua, actually believe that Ike lost that fight... which means that Ike was OUTBOXED BY DAVID TUA!

I think that neither of these guys would knock the other out. Peter would win by decision. Peter has better boxing ability than people give him credit for, and Ike has just been extremely overrated given his circumstance.

O please. Who gives a crap about the score cards. Byrd was left literally foaming at the mouth like a drunk ******. That was one of the worst annihilations of a top flight opponent in the history of boxing. As for comparing the Tua bout again thats floored logic. Back then Tua was 25lbs lighter and used to actually throw punches in bunches way before he got fat and lazy and fell in love with his power. Ike had a short career but in that time he beat 2 very good names in there physical PRIMES setting a heavyweight record in the process and destroying another well known name in another.

If you think Peter has better boxing ability than people give him credit for your watching the wrong sport.Peter doesnt even know how to throw a left hook with correct form and torque. He still doesnt know that rabbit punching is illegal.I fail to see how its possible to say in one breath Ike is overrated and that Peter has SOME boxing ability in the same sentance. the two simply dont go together.

Reaching? No reaching is making a case that Byrd was up on the judges scorecards.Reaching is trying to make a case that he got outboxed by Tua. Those 2 guys never boxed they stood in cup and simply slugged it out.Keep it real. You`ve seen the fight. Your not stupid. So why make posts like that? Do you honestly believe Peter has more boxing ability than his been given credit for? Do you believe Ike has less talent than Peter and not enough to beat him?

Admittedly his career was lightening in a bottle but undefeated and 2 wins over 2 prime heavies has to count for something. Peter has yet to beat ANY heavyweight name. Guys like Williams Mccline Toney etc simply dont cut the mustard. You know this. I dont need to spell it out for you.

The problem is that Sam Peter has got worse. Look at him in his 6th pro fight. (even though they say it's his 5th)

    [YT]LXftLwgCwf4[/YT]

Look at the movement he used to have with his feet. He used to be extrmely light on his feet, and very fast. He has become overweight and stuck in the mud. His amazingly slow foot speed makes him look awful nowadays. People keep acting like he is getting better, when he is getting worse.

The only thing that he is improved is rolling with the punches a bit. That has only become needed because of his lousy foot movement these days. Peter seemed better to me vs Williams and even Wlad, than he has lately. He was still moving a bit then. Now, he just stands around and swings, and it has even taken away from his power as his balance doesn't even seem that good anymore.

Compare any of those fights, to how he looked, even in his best round against Maskaev... and I think that you will see a decline.
