sounds accurate, I thought the same thing when Mollo was pressing early and didn't get to Golata...if that was Peter or any other big puncher it would have been a Brewster re run for Golata. And don't forget golata was very lucky to get out of the first round with Mcbride in their fight.

Well not even Peter. Look at who we have besides Peter.

    Waldo
    Ibragimov
    Chagaev
    Maskaev

I'll be honest with you. He might beat Maskaev, and that's even a big maybe considering Golota is a sucker for a right hand. But this is by and large a puncher's division. And all those guys mentioned would probably knock him silly.

Golota just never had the mental fortitude to walk through massive punches. He falls apart and will when presented with another title shot.

yeah those are just a few guys to mention he was just sitting there covering up and not even a tight cover up..there were holes where a big shot could get through and then start the snowball effect..he was fortunate the smaller Mollo couldn't crack his shell.....question is who's next for Golata?

From what I remember of the Brewster fight, as little of it as there was... Golota went out there and tried to brawl with him.

He didnt cover up early, try to stay away and weather the storm like he did with Mollo, from what I remember he tried to trade with Brewster, who is a puncher.

Granted Mollo isnt the puncher Brewster is, but Golota did not do what he should have done in that fight, which is stay away, and cover up. He was trying to brawl and slug it out with Brewster, and he cannot do that.

That atmosphere in that arena that night was charged. I knew what was going to happen the second I saw and heard all those Golota fans shouting and cheering and waving the white and red everywhere. Golota came out there swinging, and ready to brawl. He should have done what he did with Mollo. Of course with a couple of adjustments for Brewster's power. Also Golota then was better then the Golota now. Had he weathered Brewsters storm he would have out -boksed him. This was after his 2 fights vs. Byrd and Ruiz, which he should have won (which were huge fights as well btw). He was doing very well.

I repect your opinion, but I still think a Golota right now could still shake up a prime Peter.

Well, I think his fortunes have run dry because he can't get Maskaev until Sam and Maskaev fight. So most likely if he does get a title shot, it'll be against Sam Peter.

But let's say Sam doesn't win. I'd still pick Maskaev to beat Golota. And that's really his only hope right now for getting a world title. Maskaev's right hand is just too good to look past because Golota is a sucker for right hands. And Maskaev tends to hang around late in fights, too.

If I were in Golota's shoes I'd stay away from the title and find some B level name opponents to fight just for dollars. Golota is a huge draw and still an engima. People flock to his fights just to see what happens and Don King knows it. All he has to do is match Golota in interesting but winnable fights and he has a decent cash cow.

Eh, possible. But the fight I saw was Brewster came out punching HARD and hitting anywhere he could. Golota blocked the first few punches but then that left hook to the body landed and Golota didn't like it. The very next exchange instead of protecting his chin, Golota dropped his hands to catch a body shot. Needless to say he paid for it dearly.

peter's obviously got power, but isn't it a bit overrated? whos the best guy he knocked out? jeremy williams?

golota's still got better skills than peter. look at mollo's post fight quote where he says he couldn't believe the combos' golota was throwing and that was with one eye. also, golota arguably outboxed chrisp tyrd in 04.

the above poster summed up samuel peter. he's got very good power and has picked up a little skill -- enough to beat toney in the rematch b/c of his size and enough to squeak by mccline. if peter beats maskaev and golota (two aging guys whom still might beat peter and would've 5 years ago), peter's 'reign' won't be long.

McCline beat the crap out of Peter. Peter could not stop an old middleweight Tony!
