he has improved his technical skills but i believe he is physically damaged at this point. he looked very unsteady on his feet against maskaev. he seemed to slip and loose his footing a lot. i think it's a combination of the poor training, the sustained beating by wlad and mccline's shots, and the vegas nightlife. the more smoke they blow up this guys ass, the worse he seems to get. i mean, look at this ****: WHO NEX? :rofl [yt]QwauQXF6B10[/yt] wlad would ko him in a return match. it would be similar to the wlad-brewster rematch. wlad is much better at controlling the distance than he was in 05.
The scary thing is how great Peter could be if he dedicated himself properly. Physically you're talking about a guy with great power, a good chin and good enough footwork for him to be trained through it. Instead he's sorrounded himself with a Tyson-style entourage and guys who look like they don't have a damn clue. It's a joke....but this IS the HW division.
he could have been a beast. he's not a bum. he's a pretty good fighter now. he'd never be a tyson. he lacks things like handspeed and fluidity so peter would never be a top notch fighter. the biggest problem today aside from his boxing mob affiliation is his lack of defense. u can get away with it at the lower weights but when 250 pound men hit u as much as they do to peter, u can't have a real long career. maskaev landed anytime he committed. look at the above video. he shakes his head when wlad tags him with a right. he showed a great chin but that **** is stupid. instead of shaking your head after u get hit, maybe it would be wiser to move your head before u get hit :yep wlad is so good physically cause he hardly gets tagged. brewster is the last guy to really do damage. peter hurt him a couple of times but it was far from a beating. sanders was the only other guy to really inflict damage.
Larry Holmes wins a wide UD or stops Peter late on accumulation He was just in another class. Peter is too slow to do any real damage, so he'd just be reduced to a slow, plodding slugger looking for one big shot, while taking jabs from the outside and getting picked apart.
isnt that what he is now? he certainly fit that bill against wlad and that was when he was undefefeated and UNDISPUTED at 243
Peter would look like Tito against winky Wright if he had a clash with Holmes. There'd be rounds where he'd land in the single digits.
Samuel "Undefeated/Undisputed Who Necks" Peter is more of a sloppy, plodding boxer-puncher now. He doesn't pressure like he used to - rushing forward, swinging for the fences. He trys to outjab opponents and set up big power shots off of it. If he gets his opponent hurt, he will try and follow up. Against Holmes, he'd have no choice but to fight the way he did earlier (looking for that one big punch), because he'd find no success boxing at mid range.
Agreed, Peter's defense is horrible, and he's simply too slow and easy of a target for Holmes. If they fought in a scheduled 15 rounder, I think Holmes manages to stop him late. Peter would just be eating up too much leather in there.
Agreed - in a 15 rounder, I'd definitely pick Holmes by stoppage. He'd be hitting Peter constantly (and with shots he doesn't see coming)
good pt. he is more of a controlled boxer now. but against a great fighter like holmes and good fighters like wlad, he will certainly revert to his caveman style :yep
Sam Peter is a work in progress, at 27 he has already Heavyweight champ, and is 30-1, and he his only loss came against the number 1 guy in the division, in a competitive loss, that displayed Peter's awesome power, by knocking Wlad down 3 times with partially blocked punches. I hope to see Peter continue to improve, his head movement has gotten better, body work, and he is starting to display one hell of a jab. It seems the only thing holding young Samuel down, is his weight, if Peter would just get down to 235-240, he would be nearly unstoppable in this weak division.
Punisher--I dont think we will see much more improvement. he is a very dangerous fighter with 2 big flaws: his poor training and swiss cheese defense. his aggressive style and heavy hands always give him a chance but against excellent boxers like wlad and good ones like white tyson, iggy u will see his flaws hilighted. he doesnt handle movement very well. it doesnt help he has don king's trainers around him either
I dont think having King is a negative, if anything it's plus, if by some chance he does lose sometime in the future, you could be rest assured Peter will get another crack at the title. As far as his lack of training, I agee with you, and that will end up being his downfall eventually. I do believe he is getting better, slowly but surely, if he got with trainer like Roach you would see major improvement fast, but at the rate he's going, you will see Peter at his best by 30 IMO.
