VERY interesting questions - I will try to address them in turn as best I can. It seems that I - and others - overestimated Peter's chin strength off of the Klitschko fight, and (to address your 3rd question) that many of us may have over-estimated Wlad's power as well. I do not think that this fight shows that McCline is any of a harder hitter than we thought. Boxing history is riddled with relatively light-hitting fighters who, on occassion, were able to exhibit uncharacteristic power. Even guys like Willie Pep, or more recently, Sven Ottke, knocked SOME fighters out. The key to chin - and power - analysis, is in looking at the totality of a fighter's career. When McCline's career is viewed "in toto" it's pretty clear the guy isn't exactly Earnie Shavers. The fact that Peter went down from a single punch, early in the fight, where fatigue presumably played little if any role, makes the questions about Peter's chin, imo, all the more serious. Again, however, this has to be balanced against the other factors I suggested above. More evidence is needed to form a definitive conclusion. As to McCline's deplorable stamina - which is probably related to his huge size, among other factors - it probably did play an important role in his inability to finish Peter. How much this contributed, and how much any recuperative ability/heart that Peter has factored in, remains a question that will emerge in Peter's future fights. Finally, I might add that these sorts of debates and examinations are exactly why I joined ESB in the first place! Cheers!:good
I don't think Wlad's power is overrated, at all, as he has absolutely destroyed, in grand fashion, his last several opponents. I think against Peter he was not putting his full force on his shots, as he was sticking and moving, so he'd not get countered by the presumeably very dangerous Peter. I think that Peter's punch tolerance is overrated from what we thought. Wlad's power is amazing, but Peter was not getting a full, set down on, shot, as Wlad has used on so many others. That said, Peter is far from china chinned as some of the kids on this site love to say over and over again. I think this whole thing is merely a good illustration that just about any heavyweight fighter can drop you, regardless of if they are known for being a heavy puncher, or not. They don't call them heavyweights for nothing.
Since when was going down in boxing an embarrassment?, damn idiotic fools. Does that mean guys like Hearns, Leonard, Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Marciano..etc are all bums? Sam got hit with solid shots, went down and got back up, now that's heart and should be respect instead of laughed at. Besides, as a Golota fan, you should think twice before questioning ANY boxer out there.
He's just using Zak's logic against him when it comes to a fighter that Zak likes. It's fun watching him squirm his way out of it.
I haven't seen Zak squirm out of anything. Infact he is sticking to his guns about McCline being "feather-fisted." It's quite funny in a way.
So if he's feather fisted and he dropped Peter 3x that would make Peter's chin weak! According to his logic. He is the first one here to **** all over fighters who so much as get wobbled once so he is being called for not doing the same thing for a fighter he likes.
All I know is that seeing the Wlad fight live...he was hit with some HORRENDOUS punches that sounded like gunshots...
Are you reading his posts? He still says McCline is "feather-fisted" I guess it's how he chose to cope with it. Me however I went for reality and said McCline's power was obviously underrated.
Taking into consideration his size and weight he should be able to drop people. Had it been any other fighter Zak would be all over the China Chin thing.
I'll be honest with you. When I initially saw Sam get hurt I was like screaming at my TV "man WTF is wrong with you!?!" But then I saw the replays. Those shots were devastating. No other way to put it.
