Seeing as there was a raging debate between myself and a poster most of you will be familiar with.

The crux of the matter was that apparently Sam Peters hit harder than Tyson, beat bigger and better fighters and would have beat Tysons opposition, so i thought i would put Peters to the test.

How would Peters have done against Tysons opponents?

Well start from the Tillis fight onwards up until the etienne fight and this includes Douglas, Holyfield and Lewis too.

Your overall mark as a whole should be, a) he does better than Tyson, b) he performs similar to Tyson c) he performs worse than Tyson

There is simply no comparison between the crude fat clubber and one of the best finishers the division has seen.

If Fat Sam had taken that advice and got his fat ass into shape he might have made something out of his career.

then again, i believe he reached his potential and did all he was capable of, basiclally his career amounted to ****

You're right, becoming heavyweight champion is a **** poor achievement for a fighter, the man should be ashamed of himself.

I'd pick Pinklon Thomas, Tony Tucker, Larry Holmes, Tony Tubbs, Spinks,Ruddock, Holyfield, Lewis who fought Tyson to all beat Peter had he been in Tyson's place on that given night. Its a toss up between Peter and Berbick, Smith, Biggs, Bruno, Williams, Stewart, Seldon, Botha, and Golota.

    Agreed.

I think Tucker decisions him in a dreary affair. Holmes would've turned him all night even in his 40's. And Peter would reach into his bag of tricks and plod after him.

Mike Spinks may have been able to pull off a tightrope act and outsmart him and win a decision. Brains over brawn. I could envision a guy like Peter not bothering to get into top shape for a former lh and coming in flat or heavy and losing a fight he probably shouldn't lose.

Same thing could happen with a Berbick type guy. Peter not getting in top form for that type of opponent and his B game just isn't good enough to get the W.

So all in all, Peter would never be able to accomplish what Tyson did ;)

In an era where theres is as many belts as there is fighters, its not something difficult to achieve.

Sam Peters won the title, big whoop, he lost, retired and opened a farm in Nigeria.
