Sam Sexton vs Larry Olubimwo

I rate Sexton higher than most on here i feel, he certainly has ability but not the chin or the engine to compete at the top.

 

^^ He's a good solid domestic fighter, No more no less.

 

Sexton is a bit too cautious for my liking, I thought last night he could and should have stepped up the pace and probably got Larry out of there, He normally uses his jab well but didn't last night either? He looked like he's lost a bit of confidence?

 

Yeah i agree, i get a bit fed up with him biding time. He's done it before i dunno if he paces himself. Ok Larry punches hard but soon as you close range he's petrified and i thought Sam could of done more. Larry walked away with confidence when Sam should of really made that fight his.

 

You always got the feeling that Sexton could have had Larry in trouble with a sustained pressurised attack.

The reason I couldn't bet on Sexton to KO Larry was because of Sextons cautious approach. That is his nature in the ring. He is a good boxer and has good co-ordination and movement but he seems to me to be unwilling to lead. The problem with that is that he is not a good counter puncher. He needs to be working off his jab and throwing fast combinations and then moving away. Raiding tactics should be his main style. If he was more proactive in throwing shots, I could see him being quite a decent fighter.

As it stands he tends to wait too much and allows the opponent to be first with his attack. This is dangerous vs pressure like Chisora and Rogan (who had him out in the first fight remember).

Yeah it was quite comical at times the way Larry covered up and backed off everytime Sexton threw a combination. To be fair to Larry that's probably the best iv'e ever seen him box.

Sorry to bump this thread, signed up Fri evening but only just got validated.

Didn't get to watch the Sexton fight, but I saw him live twice in Norwich, and have watched him a couple more times on TV. He definatly knows how to box, but like its already been said he does seem too cautious, and that will undoubtedly hold him back.

After he lost to Chisora a couple of years ago, I still expected him to go onto bigger things, but then he had a year and a half (or so) out for various reasons it appears. Do people think he can still make something of himself? Or will he be there just to fill the numbers. I'm hoping after a couple more wins he will gain some more confidence and really push himself and win a couple of titles maybe. He'll never be World Champ, but maybe Euro champ?

Also, will he have to have a re-match with Larry because of the way the fight ended? I'm not too clued up on the rules, I've mainly only really followed Thaxton and Sexton in the past 4/5 years since I saw them both live at Carrow Road (think might have been Sexton's debut).
