Tomorrow at the Melbourne Pavilion. The full card will be available on internet PPV @ http://www.epicentre.tv/events/sam-soliman-v-mark-lucas/, for roughly eleven United States dollars ($14.95 in Aussie coin) starting from 7:30pm local time AEST, which is 5:30am for those of us on the American east coast. This event is billed as "The Final Time" - as in 45 year old Soliman's last professional match. So those holding your breath for a fourth dance with Anthony Mundine, it would appear you dream is deferred. Soliman officially has just one victory since defeating Felix Sturm for the IBF middleweight championship five years ago, with a record of 1-1-3-1. Lucas is coming off his first defeat, via SD to Rocky Jerkic,, having as of February been a 9-0 prospect on the rise. The native of New South Wales is sixteen years Soliman's junior at 29, and has a 2½" height advantage - but is facing a 60-543 deficit in professional rounds' experience.
The worst example of an alledged boxer i have seen was when I watched Solimans disgusting fight with Tej Pratap Singh. Singh dropped him twice and still lost on the cards. That decision was later ruled a no contest but not too sure if that was accepted by the Aussie mob that ru(i)ns boxing in that country. Solimans only chance at restoring any respect is to box without wrestling and hugging his next opponents to death.
I'm not sure he's capable. Of the aforementioned 543 professional rounds that Soliman has "boxed", I'm not sure one has been clinch-free. Literally one.
This is the rare instance where I regret not having included a "disqualification" or "No Contest" poll option.
At least once a month IB posts a thread about a little known upcoming fight and I scratch my head and say 'he's still fighting?' about one or both of the guys. Six months ago it was Jorge Barrios. A while after that it was Allen Green. Then a few weeks ago, Tarvoris Cloud. Now Sam Soliman. I wonder, does Golden Johnson have a fight coming up? What about Lou Savarese, or Ivan Robinson? Lionel Butler is due to show up booked on boxrec any day now. As for Soliman, you've got to hand it to the guy for making it so far for a guy who fought by wobbling around the ring while flapping his arms like a flamingo. Two wins over Felix Sturm, he beat Giovanni Lorenzo and Ray Joval when both those names meant something, and he gave Winky Wright a maddening tussle.
Sam Soliman is getting old for boxin has experience tho should be enough to get a win over Mark Lucas , Rocky Jerkic got good skills made it look easy as defeating Lucas . Mark has no head movements straight up an down boxer basic skills . Old man Sam Soliman my pick for this .
