I say good luck to Sam Soliman. He is one boxer who has paid his dues. He really fooled me when he won the Sturm rematch. He should beat whats left of JT fairly easily.

Taylor suffered a brain bleed when he was knocked out cold by Abraham. He was told by doctors that he would never box again. He took 2 years off and managed to get licensed again by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, In Australia if you have had a brain bleed you wont get licensed again, most states in USA are the same, however In 2009, citing no scientific evidence, Nevada State Athletic Commission overturned a 1972 rule barring boxers with a history of brain injury from being licensed so Taylor used this to his advantage and got licensed again. The commission opted for a case by case basis and found that he had no permanent damage.

Boxers safety should come first and if you have had a bleed your prone to another one, its not something to be taken lightly and its why boxer who had suffered brain bleeds never get licensed again.

And there is no way anyone's going to pay Soliman more money than he would get for fighting GGG. Taylor is not the same fighter he used to be, he is damaged goods and the fight will not generate enough revenue to pay Soliman the kinda money some people are talking about in this thread. Boxing's not all about money anyhow. Its a shame people are now starting to ignore what the sport is really about and are using cop out excuses to defend soliman, all of which are false.

Agree, the backslapper fans pick & choose who they think should fight for money and who should fight for legacy.

Shhh haters, let the adults have a conversation about the fight.

Herald Sun today claims the big date is Saturday October 4.

Hey Trav what are your thought on Taylor not having fought at middleweight for years and coming back after suffering a brain bleed?

Honestly, boxing is a sport that is structurally bizarre and even unsound. I've posted about this before (Those posts may have gone the way of the Dodo at times when the Sammy threads were deleted, not sure).

No idea why Taylor is IBF #15. He was one of the best fighters in the world a few years ago, but I’ll readily admit that it’s a mystery to me why a world champ should get the opportunity to fight someone who hasn’t fought class opposition at this weight level recently.

Still, here are 2 things that are fairly well known and obvious. 1. Sam’s legacy has been built up over 20 years in this game. His record of fighting anyone is legendary. Just look up his history and it’s a case of “Enough said!”. 2. Sam’s had people ducking him for years and years. He's toiled endlessly and has been a victim of the boxing system.

So, who can blame him for taking the best pay day possible and taking advantage of the bizarre boxing system, at whose hands he has suffered considerably and admirably? Especially when he’s reportedly scheduled to do so within 4 months of his win over Sturm?

Not me. And not you either, if you’re interested in being fair.

Anyone supporting Gorilla Soliman fighting a medically unfit Jermain Taylor are pure scum. They are not true boxing fans.

Good way for a washed up Taylor to pick up a belt again.
