This is Terry Holmes' TV debut. Nice performance.

 

Round 7

Holmes is casting long fishing poles to the body, chasing Byrne about the ring. The work rate is dropping off some, but he's still initiating the action and landing better when they trade. Byrne is backing up and trying to line up counter rights. Byrne lands a peach. Big hooks to the body by Holmes, persistent. Holmes is cut. Right hand lands after the bell by Byrne.

I hit "submit" in haste thinking it was a TKO. (and was going to just correct the typo and add "TKO5!!"...before all the craziness ensued)

I think most people thought the same in that instant, though. :yep

 

Round 8

Byrne is loading up on HUGE shots, hooking wildly with his fist dragging from a few inches above the canvas and then flying high up overhead en route to where Holmes' head had been a moment earlier. Holmes is bouncing around, doing well to stay off Byrne's wild shots. Good counter right by Holmes. Byrne slashes away with hooks from the outside. Body shots by Holmes. Byrne decides to take the cue and go to the body himself. Bit of a low blow by Byrne. Clinch. BIG right uppercuts to the ribs by Holmes, and a left hook to the temple leaping up off his toes. Nasty bit of business up close, both chiseling the body and both straying somewhat low. Byrne steps back and puts out a jab, then drubs the body leaning down. Holmes jabs him back, and comes forward - walking into a couple of chopping rights to the neck. Holmes is unswayed and pushes Byrne back tot he ropes. Big right hands. Byrne tries to fight off the ropes, but can only succeed in clinching.

Deserved, thoroughly.

Byrne is disgusted. :?

Ref's score was 67-65 to Holmes.

Wait, what? :blood

8-rounder. Shouldn't that have been 77-75? The score announced was ten points short for both.

 

OK, OK. I have seen it, several times. :yep

It's still :shock:, though.
