Has any other boxer done this as effectively as he? From one of the best Muay Thai champions of all time to one of the slickest 122 pounders in boxing in his prime, he really adjusted well to boxing, moreson than any other I've seen attempt the transition, at least style-wise. Galaxy and his brother kept their Muay Thai stance and style really, while Samart adapted his slickness to the boxing ring very well. Then again he was always known for being one of the slickest Muay Thai fighters with probably the most refined boxing skills.
Yea I brought him up a long time go often, amazing fighter. I think one of the main reeasons he was able to transition to boxing so well is that he had amazingly sharp reflexes and a "demon eye." Also, he was one of the smartest fighters I've ever seen. Abilities like intelligence and reflexes allowed him to make the transition and adapt as opposed to other MT fighters who really weren't smart enough to understand the fundamental differences between MT and boxing. Still, he's a MUCH more impressive MT fighter than a boxer.
I think Chitalada, Muangsurin and Sahaprom were also accomplished Muay Thai fighters. Muangsurin didn't adapt his style much. The other two did well, moreso Sahaprom, as Chitalada didn't have much inside game or use many left-hooks\uppercuts.He was more of an Ali influenced fighter.
Muangsurin fought like he was plucked right out of a Muay Thai ring and thrown into a boxing ring. Not very adaptable. The fight with Hearns was pretty embarassing. But then he was fighting Hearns.
He seemed to have absolutely no idea how to deal with what was in front of him. God damned crazy chin though.
Also, Samart's brutal KO over Pintor is terrifying stuff. Pintor went 15 with Zarate, for christs sake.
Pintor's last great front IMO was Gomez. What an incredible war that was, WOW. How draining tho at Pintor's career stage. One of the all time great fights. Meza was a very notable effort but he was no longer the warrior of 1980 or so. I go VERY close to labelling Pintor "great". I liken his level somewhat close to a Dwight Qawi. Maybe a Marlon Starling too. These guys are right on the dge IMO.
