What the title says. Inspired by all the Jarrett Hurd talk on the General Forum.

    Let's start.

    Wilfredo Gomez ( at 122lbs)
    Bob Foster (at Light Heavyweight)

...Any others that come to mind?

Out of curiosity, do you mind going into a little more detail? How much weight did he put back on, and how strong was he exactly? What other strong fighters did he man handle, feats of strength, anything appropriate really.

I'm on holidays at the moment and probably need to go into my book to get detailed Russ. From memory there was multiple stories about starving to make weight and then smashing food. Have a look at any of his fights. He bullied most guys from Bantam to Nelson 1. Callejas was a most sensational effort.

Sugar Ramos, one of the most physically monstrous featherweights of all time, it was incredible that he could make the weight at all really. Weight-draining really told on him though and probably shortened his career. He tended to fade in the championship rounds more or less from winning the title, against King and badly against Robertson before coming up against the last fighter you want to be drained against- Saldivar.

Ortiz was a physical monster at lightweight, who Ramos moved up to face. Absolutely huge at the weight.

Venice Borkhorsor must've been a sight at flyweight, he looked like a tank at bantam.

Griffith was a beast at welter with his huge upper body and shoulders, massively strong and didn't get bullied even at middleweight against Tiger who was a huge, powerful specimen himself for that weight also, maybe the strongest ever to compete there.

I think the day before weigh-in was in effect during Barkley's time.

You're right. I was thinking of Barkley at middle. That was a few years later. I stand corrected.

McClellan at middleweight looked like a big lh in there. You could almost think he was a cruiser that was not maxed out but coming in at like 180.

Another huge guy was Boza Edwards at 130. Man, he was big in there. Ironically, he did not do all that terrific at lw. But he was twice the size of the guys at 130.

Man, I'm just starting to sort through everything within the plethora of 1970's lower weight fighters and now you've got this entirely new list that I need to entrench myself and learn about... I have... conflicted feelings...:hang:risas3:

Still had same-day weigh-ins through the 80s, including in his fights against Hearns and Duran though.
