Same day weigh-ins, 15 rounds or less weight classes?

Also, even if each of the 3 main sanctioning bodies only had 1 belt, that would be terrific..

3 belts(obviously, ideally 1) and 10 or 11 weight classes...

 

only thing i would change is one title per division. 12 rounds and previous day weigh ins are more for fighter saftey than anything else. have no problem with so many divisions as long as theres one title.

 

Out of those listed I'd like to see a return to 15 round world title fights (It'll never happen though and neither will same day weigh-ins).

The biggest problem though is multiple world champs at the same weight. None of the problems listed in the thread title come close to the mayhem and harm they are causing to boxing.

 

The thing is though, the larger gloves allow for longer fights which increases the chance of the type of injury which boxers don't recover from. It reduces knockouts but increases the chances of prolonged beatings. I'm not sure why they introduced bigger gloves knowing full well that a gruelling 12 round fight is often far more destructive to a persons life and career, than a knockout is.

 

I think this would boxing a better sport. The other two are fine, yeah, and in an ideal world, I'd like to see them as well but if I had to choose one, this would be it. The competition would be a lot greater and that's ultimately the best thing for the fans.

 

if your going to do this then you need to change the weights (raise them) to meet the modern era where people are generally bigger than 50 years ago.

105 - Straweight
119 - Flyweight
133 - Banamweight
147 - Featherweight
161 - Lightweight
175 - Welterweight
189 - Middleweight
203 - Light Heavyweight
Unlimited - Heavyweight

 

It is hilarious when you have Welterweights in boxing that are barely over featherweight for MMA.

Still think you need to raise the limits slightly. you have two divisions at the moment no British fighter can fight at.

Weight Classes

 

I like this a lot. Good point about needing to take into account the difference in the average person now. Interestingly the weight classes are quite similar to the MMA ones. The UFC about a month ago had a "Super Seven" Q&A with all seven world champions and it struck much just how awesome a roster of champions boxing could have if it was unified.

Disagree with 15round fights and same-day weigh-ins. Both were necessary changes.

 

People are forgetting about the Orientals when talking about these lower weight classes.

 

The weigh ins present hype the day so they are good the day before. Same day weigh ins are no use unless ALOT of money was spent on checking fighters to ensure they are healthy. Fighters would still cut a horrible amount of weight.

15 rounds is good but for the hardcores.

Less weight classes would make it MUCH easier to follow and out of no where weight classes would become STACKED. Fighters would also jump around MUCH less. Moving up or down in weight would be a serious career move not a joke like it is now adays.
