the UFC champion is not unified or the true champion though? UFC is not a sport.

A UFC Champion is as near as dammit a unified champion in the same way there were unofficial world championships in the sixties and seventies but everyone knew what the true championship was. That will be even more true when they merge UFC and Strikeforce.

I'd keep the traditional weight limits for historical reasons.

Well of course the weights were een mote different back in the day (featherweight 118, middle 154 for example) but I pretty much agree.

Rob, you are getting too hung up on the names of the divisions. They mean **** all really. The original weight classes would still work, there are plenty of men around those weights that it doesn't make any sense to move the weight classes up IMO:huh

Flash Jab, same goes to you; MMA doesn't regulate anyone under strawweight do they? What of the fighters that are at 'boxings strawweight limit (less likely in MMA as strength/weight training obviously plays a much bigger part)???

Again, the names mean little. 9 stone is a good weight class, there are still plenty of fighters around that weight. If guys 'that wouldve been featherweights' but have evolved to be bigger are lightweights by name, what does that matter?!

The weight classes should stay the same, there should just be less of them. With one World title and more depth in a weight class, it's not always the guy who's bang on the weight who's tearing through the division, these fighters would have to be way more active if they wanna' EARN A TITLE SHOT and regular fighting makes weight advantages far less important.

Well, it did last time they tried it, accepted as 'The Golden Era'(s) of boxing. I'm not certain a Klitschko-scale body is gonna' be too handy at fighting 8-10 times a year.
