At the end of the day what matters more? What boxers weigh before the fight or what they weigh during it? From all what I've read the scientific/medical arguments for day before weigh-ins have largely been discredited. It actually makes boxing less safe as it allows naturally bigger guys to pile on up to 20lbs between the weigh-in and fight. Conversely, dehydrating and starving your body isn't good for the sport either, yet this is what day before weigh-ins promote and encourage. Different alphabet bodies having different rules doesn't help matters, there should be a blanket rule across all governing bodies regarding weight and PED testing. Sanctioning bodies and boxing commissions should work hand-in-hand in creating a consistent rule to make the sport not only fairer but safer.

Agree. What should be installed, is a rehydration clause stipulating that fighters may not weigh more than say 110% of the weightclass limit at fight Night.

At least in the UK, I think Eubank vs Watson led to the change? Myself, I'm not sure if going back to same-day weigh-ins would make much difference in terms of "fairness". You would still have people draining themselves and suddenly re-hydrating, and there will always be boxers willing to risk more than most.

Altering the time period might reduce the absolute amount of weight that can be gained but it would be a slight quantitative change, rather than qualitative. Intravenous rehydration would probably be used to off-set it anyway.

Most fighters will not severly dehydrate themselves if they know the weighin is on the day of the fight. I say most, not all!

The worst part of the day before weighin to me is that its unfair to the fighter that actually makes weight safely and appropriately as they're now at a size disadvantage.

If anything you want to make sure that fighters that go about it the right way are rewarded and thats what "same day" weighin's promote.

Nah! Ali, Tyson, Holyfield, all fought great under 225 lbs.

I believe if you have the skills, you can still be a great Heavyweight at 205 or roughly abouts.

Im not so sure. You could easily get some fools pouring water down their throat, or via IV, trying to gain an "advantage" - unless the same day weigh in happens literally an hour or two before the fight starts.

(People will try anything to gain an edge. Its human nature.)

i think its time they had to make three weigh ins.one a week before, one the night before, one on the way to the ring.

    I totally agree.

But not just same day weigh in, in 10 hourse peoples have enough time to try some rehydration trick; no, the weigh in must be just one hour before entering the ring.

That way, we would finally have champions of the weight classes, and not peoples of 1-2-3 weight classes above like it has become the standard.

Dehydration has ruined so many matchups and even fighter's health.

    Stop with that ****.

Fighters must fight in their natural weight classes, against fighters their own weight.

But it will NEVER be done, becuase it allows more fights to take place, hence MONEYS.

    Won't happen.

Day before weigh-in gives time to make the weight if missed or negotiate a new one if needed.
Fight getting canceled is the worst thing for every party involved. Nobody gets payed.

How many times would a fight get cancelled when official weighin's were the day of the fight?

If you switch back to same day weighin's and one of the fighters weighs over the limit, there's nothing wrong with the way it is today as far as having it in the contract the weight penalty for going over. That way the fight can still go on if the opponent chooses.

A fighter knows the days leading to the fight whether they're going to make the weight or not. When he realizes days before that he's not going to make weight, thats when you inform the commision and the other camp and they can figure out what to do before the actual official weighin.

also take in account the old rules of 8 weight classes.

Even just by going back to that right now would remove a lot of the crap that goes on.

That is a great idea. The framework could go something like this:

    >105%: Hand over 30% of purse
    >107%: Hand over 60% of purse
    >108%: Fight is off, pay penalty
    :deal:bbb

It has to properly hurt financially to go over the limit so we won't have fighters speculating.
Welters would be able to get up to 154 before being penalized. Don't think that is to harsh, really. Fighters going up two weight classes from the weigh-in is not good for the sport. This would also be great for the health of the fighters.
