This is the obvious way forward. We had something similar with the IBF and a certain number blatantly disregarded the ruling and came in way oversized, thus gaining an advantage on the other guy who stuck to the rules. Danny Jacob's did it and I read the other day that Canelo did the same thing against Khan 're the IBF title.
Correction. It was supposed to take place at welter. It looks like one of them couldn't make weight because neither weighed in quite at 147. Reid was 5'11 and much bigger than the opponent, Valdez. It's possible that Reid entered the ring way heavier or than Valdez or Valdez severely dehydrated himself to try to make 147, or both. Reid had lots of wild fights. I can't remember the best ones.
A day before weigh in plus a day of weigh in would ensure fighters weren't cutting ridiculous amounts of water and were actually fighting in the right weight class. If you eliminate the weight cutting, then the only way to artificially change your weight is to go up voluntarily and choose to take on larger opponents for the challenge. What we have now, is a system that rewards large men beating up smaller men, when they'd probably get their asses kicked fighting other men their own size.
