12 rounds at welterweight. Jose Napoles' title challenger Lewis squares off against The "Clutch"...A lightweight who fought everyone from Pep to Robinson. What's your take?
What would Hedgemon Lewis possibly be able to do to beat the man who defeated Willie Pep? Sammy Angott, to me is a vastly underrated, high quality fighter who is one of those "spoiler" types who neutralized the weapons of many of his more naturally gifted opponents, with Pep being a prime example. It would take a fighter of greater proportions, talentwise, on the level of a Ray Robinson to deal with Angott successfully, not Hedgemon Lewis. Angott would have used his "clutch' like another master of the black arts, Fritzie Zivic would have used his thumbs. Angott was too smart for a guy like Hedgemon Lewis. Angott frustrates him all night long and wins an easy decision.
Why yes, or course, now that you mention it. His chances, in this hypothetical matchup have taken a definite upswing, with possibilities I never knew existed.
