I have read where so many seem to call Wlad and Peter the two best heavyweights.

Now I think anyone with any knowledge of boxing would agree that Wlad is one of the best two heavyweights, certianly, but how can anyone who claims to be unbiased, and to be a fan of the sport, put Samuel Peter above Ruslan Chagaev?

    1. If you do put Peter above Chagaev, please explain what accomplishments Peter has achieved to put him above what Chagaev has achieved.......

Hold on, there's a second part to his questioaire......

    2. How does Samuel Peter vs. Ruslan Chagaev play out? What would happen and how fast would it happen?

    :good

no doubt in my mind that Chagaev takes this with relative ease.

    1. Until Saturday, I had Peter rated at #2 and Chagaev rated at #3. After the McCline fight, I reversed them.

    2. At this point, this fight has to be regarded as a "pick 'em." Prior to his showing against McCline, I would have picked Peter easily. I still lean to him on the basis of power and aggression, but have doubts regarding whether he can take Chagaev's punch. It's a toss up, imo.

How did beating Toney twice, and losing to Wlad, put Peter above Chagaev, who has never been beaten, and has beaten himself, Virchis, Ruiz, and the as of then, undefeated Valuev?

Chagaev is one of the most skilled and impressive heavies out there, bar none. The guy has a hard punch, and is very aggressive and works not only the head, but the body, too and does it with one of the fastest set of heavyweigh hands out there............... And yet, some seem to put Peter's two wins against Toney above that.

That is what I don't understand. :blood

Before the McCline fight, I rated Peter at number 4 and his most recent outing does nothing to change that.

I think Chagaev would out-box him and get the better of him in close quarters to win a decision.

close call IMO, Chagaev is one of my favorite heavywieghts out there right now, the way he came at Valuev in angles was amazing. I see either Peter knocking Chagaev early because he is at the same hieght as Peter and will be easier to hit, though Chagaev does have good head movement. But my money would be on Chagaev winning by UD.

Chagaev is verry underrated. I love this guy, Im a huge fan of his. Hes smart, has decent power, and he somewhat saved boxing. He got rid of that joke Ruiz, and made Rocky Marciano smile up there in the heavens. This guy deserves all the ****ing credit in the world. To be honest with you, I will get flamed for this, but, Chagaev UD W. Klitschko. He is just a smart fighter, and deserves that Number 2 spot.

I agree. I had Ruslan above Peter based on accomplishments.

i've always thought chagaev as the no2. heavy after wladimir.

very similar to peter in power, chin and will to win BUT has far superior boxing skills. he can actually use the ring, combinations, etc.

not to mention actually respects all his opponents, unlike sam peter who often has come into fights out of shape.

if chag and peter fought i would go with chag on points, or late round stoppage. peter plods so all you need is a geniune heavyweight fighter from the top 10 who knows how to move and bingo. UD or late KO.

peter deserves to be top ten. and perhaps a abc belt holder one day. but nothing more.

to me chagaev was always the one to give wladimir his hardest test during his peak years.

Though it's unjustified IMO, most probably rank Peter higher than Chagaev, because Peter has been a contender much longer and pretty much had the #2 spot locked-up by the time Chagaev started making waves.

Good point. Not so much who has accomplished the most, but who was there first..........

Maybe some do see it that way.

Toney is a far better fighter than either Valuev or Ruiz - and Chagaev didn't exactly dominate those guys. Peter did dominate Toney in the second fight.

That said, as I indicated, Peter lost ground, imo, with his performance against McCline, who was never more than a fringe contender. Truth is, these guys are pretty comparable at this point in terms of accomplishments. It's a question of what you place more weight on.

Chag is my favorite heavy. I don't know if he can beat Wladdy- he's got a good punch but not a great one. He can get inside, but against Wladdy? Iw ould love to see the fight.

As for Peter, Peter was alway a wildly overrated guy, and I have been saying for a awhile that I thought Chag was number 2. I would have said Chag would win every round on a way to decison. Now I would say by stoppage.

The disparity in their boxing skill is just too big. There is no way in the world Peter coujld outbox Chagaev, and he has a very small chance of knocking him out as Chagaev is a tough cookie. I dont see a single thing that Peter does better.
