''Samuel Peter was the hardest puncher'' --Marion Wilson Wilson was only stopped once in 57 fights (on a cut), and 25 of his 57 opponents were undefeated. Only fought one opponent with a losing record, in his sixth fight and didn't retire till he was 51 years of age. He didn't even have his first pro fight until he was 32. His opponents total records were 1127-146-14, averaging 20-3 and he fought the likes of: Ray Mercer Andrew Golota Hasim Rahman Oliver McCall Shannon Briggs Oleg Maskaev Tony Thompson Ike Ibeabuchi Zeljko Mavrovic Kirk Johnson Larry Donald Ezra Sellers Frans Botha Jeremy Williams Orlin Norris Tyrell Biggs Carl Williams Derrick Jefferson Corey Sanders David Izon Jimmy Thunder Paea Wolfgramm Vaughn Bean Mike Hunter Greg Page Faruq Saleem Terrance Lewis Obed Sullivan Among others http://boxrec.com/boxer/4537
Peter is at least 38, not 29. If he were 29, that means he would have been 11 years old when he had his first pro fight.
Not based on any win in particular...the lacklustre fighters around at the time were literally afraid of the guy. He was a big, strong guy with one-punch power and not a lot of dudes around were too adept at avoiding being punched in the mouth.
I think IIRC back in the day, late 90's, to avoid confusion, people always referred to ours (the American one) by his name and nickname...as in "Corey T-Rex Sanders"...as Corrie was considered the more prominent HW and the one you would assume was being talked about w/o any qualifier attached..
