My biggest concern with Maskaev remains ring rust.

By the time he steps in the ring against Peter, he won't have fought for some 15 months.
Add to the fact that he'll be 39 years and, perhaps more than who has the better boxing skills or the heavier punch, that could be too big an obstacle to overcome.

For all that the McCline fight damaged his stock, Peter will have benefitted from having fought recently, and in such a challenging effort too. He will not be rusty, and it could even be a wake-up call for him to do better in his training, tactics and preparation.

I do think Maskaev's rustiness is going to be a big factor in this fight.
So I'm going for a Peter mid-to-late TKO.

Ordinarily, I'd consider this a toss-up. But Maskaev has been out of action for So long, he has to have ringrust. And Peter's a pretty dangerous puncher to face with ringrust. So, Peter by mid-late round KO.

Scam Cheater almost got knocked the **** out by Nomeal McDine who is miles in consistancy and class below Oleg Maskaev.

Maskaev by decision, but he could take out this no chin chump by round 5.

Unfortunatelly Maskaev is too old by now and it will show on this fight.

    Peter Tko 09.

Maskaev has a crappy chin, and is too old and slow to avoid Peter's straightforward bombs. Not only that, but Maskaev's gotta be rusty as all getout at this point. The reason this has dragged out for so long is that everyone (including Maskaev and his camp) knows that Maskaev was going to get knocked out by either Peter or Vitali, so he might as well face the guy who presents him with the bigger payday. Washed up Rahman still managed to outbox Maskaev for a good part of the fight, although he couldn't land a good bomb because his own whiskers were too shaky to walk through Maskaev's punches. Peter won't have that problem. Peter by big KO early, and Maskaev doesn't get back up.

Before the McCline fight I gave Peter 90% to win unless he would come in obese. Now, I am not even sure, even though as many above outlined Maskaev is old and has been inactive, and his own chin is shaky as well. This fight is a total toss up for me. I would give a slight advantage to Peter though.

  13. Peter by late stoppage..Maskaev is 39, had a lot of injuries and been really inactive, it's going to be ugly for him..

Maskaev is by far the weakest beltholder and like others said, old, slow and china-chinned, a stationary target so _exactly_ what Peter needs. Maskaev is still heavy-handed though so it's not impossible for him to win, because we are talking about Sam Peter here whose most effective punch is the rabbit punch and who considers it an awsome boxing skill to telegraph his wild hayemakers. But chances are Maskaev gets KO'd.

Well, McCline is 37 y.o, the only fight in 07 he had was 2 rds against Valuev, so he had been inactive as well. He is inferior boxer and puncher to Maskaev and look what he did to Peter.
