I think the Bugner who fought Ali and Frazier rather easily outpoints Peter.

Peter is a terrible fighter with no skills, all he has is power and a nice rabbit punch. That wouldn't be enough.

Yes, Bugner seemed to lack motivation many time in his career. At such times, he would lose to Peter.

But we are supposed to be talking about a prime Bugner. in such an instance, Bugner comfortably outpoints Peter.

Even this is overrated. His impressive strength is better, although very strong boxers like Wlad and I suspect Bugner can manhandle him.

Bugner was a stiff, Peters would beat him, but maybe not by ko. Bugner took good shot, and would probably just look to go distance.

Yeah, I'm not saying I rate Peter that highly, however providing he comes into the fight in half-decent shape I think he'd inicitate the exchanges and just about outwork Bugner, whose offensive output was minimal at the best of times.

Yeah but Bugner at least had a tidy jab and tight defense which would offset whatever ponderous attack Peter could mount. Also I don't think Peter's overrated power is an issue against somewhat with Joe's durability.

I can understand what you mean. Bugner was not really the smooth, slick boxer his advocates presented him as being. Whenever pressured -- even by mediocre opponents -- Bugner tended to get frustrated and go into a defensive shell.

Also, Bugner never felt comfortable on the offensive. Maybe he was too muscle bound to put his combinations together, I don't know.

Even during his prime, Bugner didn't look very good against certain short, strong, stocky opponents (such as Peter is). Bugner reportedly looked like crap in defending his EU title against poor Euro challengers like Dante Cane, Bepi Ros, and Mario Baruzzi, all of whom were infighters with bulldozer-like physiques.

Still, I tend to pick Bugner over Peter because of the sharpness of Bugner's left jab. Bugner's air-tight defensive skills and vastly superior height and reach would help him here too.

This fight could go either way: it would be close. Bugner's jab makes the difference in my book.

My guess is that Bugner's 1973 decision victory over Mac Foster is the best model of how he'd deal with Peter. Foster was a lot like Peter physically and stylistically, and Bugner beat him by decision.
