Last night Samuel Peter impressed me and once again looked like a well prepaired contender as he did over 5 years ago... The weight was right, the patience was good, he was making all the right sounds metaphorically speaking, doubling up on the jab and letting his hands go more.. and when the stoppage opportunity presented itself , he took it with both hands and stopped a quite lively opponent considering.. Sammy may have placed himself in the firing line once again to have a run at a top belt.. If Albert Sosnowski is getting a shot at a major title , then Peter should be up on the short list for an entrance to shoot for a top scalp... I know how low Samuel was following his lowest point (the loss to Chambers) he spoke to me within hours and was inconsolable, he felt that he had let so many people down .. I told him that the one thing Samuel had to address was the weight and he didn't disagree.. He has to put the Vitali KLitschko fight behind him and look to the future ... THere is no reason why he cant learn from his past errors and make good with the obvious natural gifts he has.. God bless.. Any thoughts...?
My feeling has always been that he was so unhappy with duva that he did not apply his self and was looking for a way out from duva and Peter has a lawsuit against duva for over 400,000 grand that Peter feels was withheld from him for the Vitali fight, seems that he has that fire again to wanna be the best he can be over at toprank with abel sanchez
He has a chance to get a titleshot he just needs to keep that fire burning in him. With his power he still is a threat.
Peter is Not ready For Klitschko Wlad would Outbox him and Destroy him easy with a Jab Peter is to slow and his stamina is not Good i Like Peter but i think he have no chance to Beat Wladimir Klitschko or Vitali for me he is not Ready !!!
I'm impressed that Sam Peter has not "gone to ****" as seemed the familiarly predictable diagnosis that I may have been inclined to give him after the Vitali and Chambers fights. He could easily have been stuck in that overweight, "washed-up before he's 30" mode, reduced to an opponent, another sluggish heavyweight who's lost all ambition. But he looks to be as good as ever. And when he's on form, he's one of the best out there. He's not the best, he may never have the beating of a Klitschko or a fighter on that model, but he's a solid and dangerous contender, solidly among the top 8 or 10. AND he's still young enough to realistically have the best of his career still to come. Still, he has to fight and beat a real opponent to get his confidence soaring and earn his way to a top spot. That's the tricky part. It's okay getting yourself sharpened on these second-raters but careers can be wasted doing too much of that too.
Very good post. I personally believe that Haye will have biiiig problems with Peter if they fight. (of course judging from their last fights Haye v Valuev and Peter v Aguilera )
Today's HW scene is pathetic, Peter looked bad, didn't look like an athlete at all, he was slow, flat footed, and he didn't set up his shots well.
With Samuel his progress is seen from fight to fight, he is more content now , and in comparrison with his punch output and method he is a thousand miles in the right direction compaired to the Chambers fight.. He can't get away with it with Abel.. He is the best thing that could have happened to him.. Its Abels way or the highway.. The weight drop has made him look for a start a whole lot more comfortable.. The fact af him being more flat footed will become a smaller issue once he is down a few more pounds and in better company.. Its a + for now.. and he is moving in the right direction.... He can obviously box.. and he is a tremendous power puncher.. He was never fleetfooted and i don't suppose he is ever going to be, but neither was Marciano or many other high octain heavyweights.. The power makes up for it occasionally though..
I thought Peter looked good. One match the fans would love to see is Peter vs the winner of Tua and Ahyuanya. If that match can not be made, Peter should fight the highest rated guy in the WBA who is willing to meet him.
hey man i saw the fight and wasn't very impressed he is a plodder and keeps his hands at about the height of his ribs and doesn't move his head much. Even his offense is very limited and anyone who can get off but stay out of Peter's power will beat him easy.
Nice post, Bigcat. I have always thought that Peter had potential, but have also had doubts about his dedication. Even when he was in the 240's, before he ever fought Wladimir Klitschko, I thought that if he would just lose about 10 lbs., he would have the speed that he needs to get in and land his bombs against the elite. The more weight he gained, the more disappointed I was at the next big waste of talent in the heavyweight division. After the loss to Chambers, I thought that Peter was now going to be a stepping stone heavyweight with a punch. When I read reports that his weight was down in the 230's, I couldn't believe it. It's been four fights now since the loss to Eddie Chambers and in all four of them Peter has been at an ideal weight to do his best. Peter has boxing skills, the Toney rematch proved that. His dedication is what has been in question. I hope he sticks to whatever he is doing, because it is working. I would like to see Peter maximize his potential. He is a class-act and an entertaining banger in the ring. I didn't get to see his victory last night due to my satellite provider apparently not proving the service. I'll just have to catch it on YouTube. Sam Peter has the tools, but will he retain the dedication that he has displayed as of late? It's been four in a row now and these weren't big money fights, so I think the answer is yes. Only time will tell, but I am obtimistic.
