I've been watching these two lately, i'm scoring Sanchez-Cowdell for AlFrancis right now and Carlos Monzon is the flavour of the month thanks to the fine tribute vid that was posted (GreatA's). They're not similar in terms of punching form or fluidity, even attributes, speed being that with the largest disparity, but i beleieve the approach to gaining victory, the demeanor, and to a large extent because of the two afforementioned aspects of their game, their styles are more similar than first meets the eye. Both are ring generals who take centre stage and happily score with the jab, and drop right hands. Both move around centre ring in a stepping motion, and when both have their comfortable boxing range intruded, both batter their opponent with pounding shots to the body, some to the head. Such battering techniques are not textbook so to speak, but are from incorrect in that regard, perfectly acceptable in range fighting by the book i'd say. One major difference would be the fluidity in the movement, but as with punching form, i'm not comparing how such leg or arm were extended, but the fact that both men extended such leg or arm to the same degree of effect, and with the same intention, leading to much of the same results. Anyone get what i mean, i see them as both emlpoying very similar majestic boxing styles and deem them similar, if only by design. This content is protected This content is protected
Just the punching form and technique really. Like Monzon's jab is thrown straighter and stiffer, whereas Sanchez' jab is one that has the appearance of him reaching out at the man. But they are both still jabs. Also, on the point of how they would batter an approaching foe's torso, Monzon's would be more hook types, whereas Sanchez would dig them under the man's elbows, but they were both still body shots to get the guy to get out of range so they could continue to dominate with the jab. Both don't have superb defences, but are great generals who keep their opponent busy concentrating on avoiding punches, which works as an effective defence for a lot of fighters in itself.
i've been watching more of Sanchez. Just watching the Ruben Castillo( no mug himself) fight, up to round 9. I think either of them could of played the Clint Eastwood roll. They've both got faces with no emotion. I've seen the Monzon post. I'll reserve judgement till I've looked at Monzon again. Also got the Patrick Ford fight on the go.
Yes,i would agree teeto. Would you say both are a 'pressure fighter' of sorts? (obviously not the chavez or pac type, more the calzaghe type.)
Yes i would, sometimes pressure fighters are not the ones that are constantly cutting the ring down and advancing. You can have pressure fighters like Yoko Gushiken, who is boxing centre ring, but constatntly boxing centre ring, and doing it with hard shots, that's what i really see as a complete boxer personally. He would always take an opportunity to finish the fight but was far from a marauding brawler, there are some similarities between Gushiken and Calzaghe, but Gushiken is much more easy on the eye. Sanchez and Monzon don't quite emply that kind of workrate, especially Monzon, but the pressure is always on the other man because they constantly have a jab in their face to **** them off, and right hands dropping in to hurt them. It's what i describe as a ring general more than anything else.
Yeah their demeanors are both very similar in that they're cold. Like THE GREAT Clint Eastwood. I'll get back to you on the fight Al relax! I'm up to round six but now i've went and made this thread and have to see to it! Cowdell starting to get into the fight as of now.
Good, well stop talking then and get back to the fight. As it happens that no even rounds thing you were talking about as got me thinking about something.
Thinking what? I read this thing years ago about not doing even rounds and i haven't given one since. SweetScientist has given me the best argument about why you could score a round even though.
Hahahaha manana? Only kidding, i'll get what i can done before the buildup to the Liverpool game defo.
You had to get the last word in didn't you . I've started a new thread on what I was thinking about anyway.
