Sanchez vs Arguello at 130

Wow. Two of my favorites. I'm leaning toward Sanchez, he just did everything so well and the way he handled Gomez, Lopez, and Nelson just gives me the feeling that he'd get a decision here.

 

Sanchez was a great boxer/inside the pocket brawler. His infighting would give even a prime Arguello fits but I think Arguello's Jab/Right Hand would keep him at bay enough for a decision. Possibly even a late round stoppage.

 

Good post. One of the greatest matches that never made it. Salvador was an extraordinary counterpuncher and a very skilled boxer, its a shame that his promising life was cut so short. Who knows what he would have been able to accomplish had he had a few more years in the ring. He would look to outbox Alexis early and try to build a lead.

However, Alexis was an extremely precise fighter, with great variety in his punches. In my opinion he was the most beautiful fighter to watch, ever. Extremely intelligent and made good decisions in the thick of battle. The subtle things that he did in the ring was something very special. So I see Alexis eventually finding his target with some pretty powerfull shots later in the fight and maybe even possibly dropping Sanchez once or twice, but Sanchez would never be out of it. In the end I see Arguello just etching out the decision by 1 or 2 points.

Two all time greats and just sad that these two brilliant combatants never got to meet in the ring. I'm gettin teary now, gotta go.
