as i've said earlier, pac would not fare well in a head-to-head match with most ATGs since pac is one-dimensional and these flaws are easy to pick apart in any head-to-head match. other intangibles like heart and determination are seldomed factor into this. hell, even against some fairly good but not ATG fighters like mark johnson, guzman and hamed, pac always is getting the raw end of the deal with these fantasy matchups.
Pac beats the hell out of Hamed, although he may touch the canvas on his way. I favor him heavily over Guzman and don't buy into the Guzman hype. Johnson was a very tricky, skilled boxer who I haven't seen footage of. From descriptions of his style he is a tricky matchup for Pac.
This is one matchup that I have a serious problem with when people favor Pac, even moreso than a Camacho or Arguello. The level of skill of Pep was off the charts, a true defensive prodigy with incredible versatile footwork, an uncanny ability to slip punches, all the cagey tricks in the book, and a superb combination puncher (this part being the most underated). Pac wouldn't find Pep, I can't say it enough. It would be a 9-3/11-4 decision.
i agree. though i feel that guzman would be a much tougher matchup because of guzman's slickness. hamed would be brutalized by pacs long bombs but i wouldn't count him out and really has a solid puncher's chance. i haven't seen johnson but from the looks of it, classic posters have his respect.
I would like to upload some Pep soon, I could put up a few rounds of his footage against Cadili. The other footage I have of him is against Lennon and Walton but its just not on par with the quality against Cadili. In that fight Pep is like a vastly superior version of JMM but with defense superior to Mayweather. Incredible stuff.
perhaps you could be right but i only based my pick on the saddler fight..how do you think he fares against pac's fast hands, aggressiveness, and the combinations pac does?
good please do:good heres one vid of his btw, against saddler http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpKHFZ6ixKs
i understand that you have watched some of his fights. i would try to watch some of his fights available and try to comment to this after. i've watched few clips of his fights before and my initial impression is pac can make a fight out of him with his speed. i would focus on his defensive aspects and other points you raised.
This is the one problem with youtube, sometimes it gives you an idea of what a boxer is but not a full idea. Saddler was the perfect stylistic nemisis of Pep. I tell you this, having only the Saddler footage is like having Pac vs Marquez or Morales I and nothing else. Someone could tell you what he did to Barrera or in his greatest performances but you wouldn't be able to see it. Pep could pick up Pac's cadence much the same way that Marquez does, except that he would employ a different strategy to negate it. Marquez counterpunches brilliantly but his defense is lacking. Pep would give Pac lateral movement and a mix of head movement and defensive parries. He would tie him up and break the tempo of the fight in the clinch. He would circle Pac constantly, and turn him around in the clinches as to disorient Pac and present a target which is never squarley in front of him. And with the effect of his defense slowing Pac's attack, disrupting his tempo, fatigue would set in. Pep would use these lulls in Pac's attacks to throw sharp combinations. Pac's arms would become heavy from the lack of target to work with and he would eventually become sloppy and would be countered cleanly and increasingly during the later rounds. Pep wins a comfortable decision.
Yes I have seen this footage, Saddler was something else at that weight and he was a nasty ****er. This is also Pep after his plane crash and beyond his best years as a boxer. Saddler's size and ability made more typically sized boxers fight differently-- much the same way that he makes Elorde fight differently than he did against Kosaka and Rivas. Saddler was something to deal with.
I'm **** on computers and need to learn the ropes on youtube. I also have a dilema. I don't want to post full fights out of respect to my supplier who is a poster on the site here. I would like to post select rounds instead but don't want to **** people off who want to see full fights...
