Usually it 3% but they are negotiable. Guys like Mayweather would never give away 3% of his purse so they come to an agreement on a set amount instead of a percentage.
Depends on the organization plus the type of fight. The WBO, for example, wants 3% up to a maximum of $200k per boxer for a title defence. 2% up to $200k per boxer for a unification. For other fights, $4k-25k depending on the total purses. Other orgs are in a similar ballpark, the WBC goes up to $300k. That being said, for big $$$ fights, the fees are negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
Thanks for the info... Good to know....so it's super expensive to remain unified champ with 3 or 4 belts for a long period of time
I'm pretty sure its a fee charged anytime you're fighting for a title under the sanctioning organization.
The fighter if successful enough can get to a point where he can tell the sanctioning bodies to **** off, but until then it's one of the best investments a fighter can make.
The sanctioning fee is part of the corruption. Guys that can bring the fans are usually the guys that mysteriously gets the title shot. Or guys that are fan favorites wins the close fights. Big money fights equal big sanctioning fee. You think the ABCs want 2 % to 3% of a 100k fight or 200k to 300k fee. These are for profit organization...when profit is involve corruption is not far behind.
Pay the referee, judges and boxing commission, that appears to be the way SOB did it..................
