In the back of the of Ross Enamaits book "Infinite Intensity" it mentions sandbag movements. It looks like the excersise would be for a wrestler or a ground fighter since you are working with heavy weight. Does any boxer have experience working with a sandbag. If so, did it help you develop your rotational power?
Medicine balls seem to be more practical, easier to hold and better designed for specific movements. Sand bags are heavy as hell though, good for circuit training and he-man style strength training. Of course it will benefit a boxer.... its pure functional strength. Did a workout with a 50 kg sandbag yesterday,,,, ouch
Sandbags are friggin lethal. Whatever the bag actually weighs, it will feel like a **** ton more when you're trying to lift it because of the weight shifting around. I wouldn't replace the use of weights with it because it is difficult to quantify equal effort on both sides of your body but there is definitely a place for it in strength training.
I have the homemade sandbags they are great , also a rucksak filled with sandwich bags full of sand can ajust the weight easily, great for weight squats, dips, chin ups etc no fancy equipment needed
Sandbag routines as part of density training can develop great endurance and mental toughness: http://asktheboxer.com/training/workouts-and-routines/112-density-training.html
It looks pretty much identical to Ross Enamits Infinite Intensity s & c program- because thats what i'm doing and its tremendous. I feel strong as ****. :good
