Damn, having trouble watching this. Hughes is one of the men I look up to, I met him before he went pro. Shame, since he's had tough calls before.

Martín unmercifully shredding Hughes' body up close with double right hooks and then drawer-shutting underhand lefts. Hughes barging in, fighting his ass off, even managing to nick the jaw of Martín with a few improbable Superman rights, but getting outlander in droves.

    10-9 Martín

    108-101 Martín

I was torn on this match for a while, then I remembered how badly Hughes looked against Yigit. He didn't look much better against Catterall. He clearly has a southpaw issue.

Martín picking up the intensity, might even think he can pull out a dramatic late stoppage here, but Hughes is so tough, shaking off salvos of half a dozen unanswered claps from Martín from various angles. Hughes grinding in close only to get snatched and released or tenderized with body hooks.

    10-9 Martín

    118-110 Martín

Well you do need to use your straight right to win against a southpaw and that's unfortunately a limitation of his. Still proud of the man for going out there and challenging them regardless.

Next time you hear anyone boast "I'd kick your ass with a hand tied behind my back" ...remember the cautionary tale of Joe Hughes and what a significant, almost insurmountable challenge fighting is without the full + equal use of all four limbs.

Joe Hughes is an inspiration to have a congenital disease and to still compete with fully able men and be very competent and successful. His balls and toughness are unparalleled in the boxing world to be honest.

The guy trains his absolute balls off as well. He's proven a lot of people wrong over the years, and hopefully continues to do so. ****, I'm actually sad about this result.

Damn, I missed the event. I'll have to wait until the live DAZN broadcast is over to watch the replay from the beginning

You can tell, he's extremely fit and well schooled. I wish him the best moving forward, man is truly an exceptional character.

Through 6 rounds I only scored the 2nd to Gonzalez, and that is a swing round. Alonso controlled the whole round but Gonzalez landed a flush big right uppercut that stunned Alonso and stole the round for me. Gonzalez was knocked down in the 3rd, 59-54 Alonso for me through 6.

Round 7 was a good one controlled by Alonso, Gonzalez landed a few good shots of his own this round, then Alonso slipped in Gonzalez's corner from water on a canvas ad. He came up lame and appeared he have have tweaked a groin or ankle, but finished the round strong 69-63. My final score was 99-90 so I think he (Gonzalez) got a couple favorable scores.
