Anyone know anything about the man that boxrec ranks as it's number one LMW of all time? Only lost to Nino Benvenuti, twice, when Nino was 56-0 and 61-0. I actually never knew Nino was undefeated for that long...
Mazzinghi was a fine fighter, who was unlucky to be in the shadow of Nino. Sadly Mazzinghi gets tainted for the Kim win (a split decision win in Italy for an Italian fighter), and even more disturbingly the Little fight.... But Mazzinghi showed with inside the distance wins over Swift Sr, Montano, Dupas (twice), Fullmer (Don) and Greaves; he was much better than that.
He defended his title in Australia once..Ive been trying to get a copy of that fight for a while I dont know a lot about him to be honest. But I think he is the guy someone was talking about who got injuried quite badly when his career was just taking off and that may have affected his career. Have seen a little film of him..Pretty crafty and appeared very sound technically from what Ive seen. Good body puncher in the fights Ive seen him in, but I havent seen enough of his career overall to lable him body punching specialist or anything. He just worked it well in the clips Ive seen.
Brawling fighter, wasn't really considered great, but was tough and could punch. I believe he was a southpaw (could be wrong about that). As said, he was featured in some controversial fights and overshadowed by his superior countryman Benvenuti.
Nah pretty sure he was orthodox..All the video Ive see of him he is orthodox and all the sources on the net I can find list him as such. I saw him more of a swarmer then a brawler as he tried to be awkward and avoid shots when on the attack rather than just going punch for punch with the opponent...but I could be wrong, havent seen enough of him.
I'd say he had a fairly nondescript bland style that mixed between a more euro style of outside boxing and punch and grab mauling.A precursor to Gianfranco Rosi in a way. Obviously not an easy guy to fight but christ his fight with Kim is one of the worst i've ever watched.
Sandro Mazzinghi was a tough guy, no shame in being knocked out by that thunderrous right uppercut from Benvenuti in their first fight. The second Ralph Dupas fight in Australia was filmed, I have seen a 5 min. version of this fight. After seing the fight with Kim, I have no problems with Mazzinghi getting the decision, but from press reports the fight against Little was a disgrace. Mazzingghi getting beaten, and saved by a bizar ruling by the referee. Woller
