Old against the new,Sandy Saddler tall ko artist against the lean and dynamite punching Alexis at 128 pounds...I saw Saddler a few times at his peak, but against Arguello.? Hmmm. Your pick?

hmmm, good fight. i'll take sandy head to head against almost any feather but at 128 it's a little different. simply though, saddler is more mobile and hits harder than arguello (rip). alexis struggled with movers and though saddler is no cutie, i think he had the mobility and workrate to push arguello and the power to go toe to toe with him. over 15 saddler UD in a brutal fight (not helped by sandy constant fouls)

Saddler was about the last fighter I'd ever classify as "mobile". He was the definition of awkward and gangly, even moreso than a guy like Spinks. In fact I'd say Arguello was quite a bit better in that regard, much smoother as well, even if that wasn't his forte. I also think Arguello was probably a harder puncher, but that's just me.

However, the immeasurable difference between 126 and 128 pounds would definitely come into play.

arguello i always found a bit flat footed. saddler, you're right, wasn't mobile, but he could if pressed move enough to create the angles needed. you're right to: saddler was awkward as ****. and don't forget the tricks. alexis was too classy in the ring to fight dirty but not saddler. i disagree and feel he hit harder than arguello and that, added to the **** he'd pull on the inside, give him the edge to me

I think all depends on where the fight is fought. If Saddler can make it a typical, ugly mauling type of fight in the clinches, he has the advantage. If Arguello can keep Saddler at a distance, he'd win.

Saddler wasn't entirely flat-footed, against Charley Riley he turned into a more of a boxer although that was after having taken a beating in the early rounds. But he was usually content on walking in and roughing up his opponents in the clinches. Both could take a punch extremely well, Saddler especially, and Arguello, although not noted for his defense, probably has the advantage in that category. He could pick off and block punches while Saddler preferred to take them flush on the chin.

It's a good point about Arguello being a gentleman which Saddler was far from. I wonder what Arguello's response would be to Sandy's questionable ring tactics.

I'd say that Arguello was probably the harder and more explosive hitter with one punch, his right hand, but Saddler had the kind of clubbing power so that he did not need to land perfectly in order to hurt his foes. His unorthodox left uppercut was perhaps his best punch.

I saw Saddler several times.A cruel and nasty infighter with cutting punches.Very strong and rough, and gave no quarters...But Saddler was Not hard to hit,and I believe that the tall and explosive Arguello would find the not elusive Saddler, with that straight right hand, often on Saddlers chin, and probably stop Sandy...Boxingis about styles and Saddler never faced as hard a puncher as Arguello...Alexis by a late stoppage....Pay a lot to see it though....

appreciate the analysis:good cruel and nasty certainly describes saddler. looks like i'm terribly outnumbered in thinking saddler hit harder:!:

    Stop him?

Not a chance in hell. We're talking about a man with one of the elite, top shelf chins of all time at the lower weight classes.

Arguello manages to be the first to stop Saddler. Arguello is far better technically and would smash Saddler with straighter punches as he tries to come inside, time and again

This one is very tough to call...Arguello was such a stylish, technical puncher. I feel Arguello has the edge in overall power and has the ability to turn the tide of a fight with one shot. But something tells me that Saddler would turn this into a gutter alley fight...If Saddler is allowed to fight his usual fight,, of holding and hitting, cuffing, heeling, butting, elbows, shoulders...You name it. The guy was just flat out rough, problably alot of very tough fighters were exasperated trying to keep up with Saddler. I just think Arguello becomes involved in Saddler's fight, namely because Arguello did not have a great reverse gear (for the most part did not need it). Give me Saddler by decision at 128 lbs.

In his bout with Charley Riley he showed some pretty good movement behind a solid jab.

    Thats how i see it

Every chin has a breaking point.
