His next opponent is ranked at #131 at super featherweight division. In his last 4 fights he was stopped by two B-level opponents and beat two bums. How that guy was qualified to fight for the vacant title is beyond my understanding.

I'm sick of Leo Santa Cruz. This guy has zero interest in fighting anyone with a pulse. Ducked Rigondeaux.

Yeah, Wilder at least finally fought Ortiz and Fury and when he is fighting no-hopers he produces some spectecular knockouts, but I can't understand who on the Earth can be interested in watching Santa Cruz beating no-hoper after no-hoper in the long and boring fights?

Santa cruz does my tits in... He should be guaranteed can't miss viewing but he's happy to sit back and fight nobody's... The guy has bags of talent a ridiculous workrate and is actually really good.... He bugs me... Loads of talent around his weight to go down as an atg... But won't fight any elites

I became a huge fan of Santa Cruz after he beat my guy Mares, finally stepping up and proving his status and hype, and more so after his losing effort to Carl Frampton and then beating him in the rematch, but this is pathetic.

For years I refused to root for him because he seemed content fighting lower level opposition, he does good for a year and a half and now back to fighting no hopers.

Off the wagon until further notice.

I agree totally with this post.

He was a two weight champion with his best wins being Mijares and Terrazas. Then the win over Mares and the two fights with Frampton actually made it look like he was destined for greatness. Because no matter how poor his runs at BW and SBW were, atleast now he was a legit force in a division. Beating Frampton set him up to be number 1 and a fight against the other title holders seemed imminent.

But then he's spent the best part of 3 years doing nothing at all to enhance his legacy. Even the Mares rematch was a poor fight.

I just don't understand how he went from an amazing 18 months including victories over Mares, Frampton and Kiko, to this.

Same but one thing I learned about Santa Cruz is that he’s only taken fight where he has glaring advantages Mares and Frampton included. With him being so much taller and having a much longer reach against both guys and neither possessing huge power, he was willing to fight them. But guys with speed, power or size advantages he’s not willing to fight them even if he says he’ll fight whoever they tell him too..

I dont really keep track of the lower weights, but is it as bad as people are saying? I mean, I understand this is two fights in a row now that havent been opponents people would have wanted, but he went Mares, Kiko, Frampton, Frampton, Avalos, Mares.

I mean, thats not a bad run, is it?

He then took a bad fight, and now this one, but really, is he that far removed from the run of decent fights?

And who would be three people you would rather him have realistically fought?

Im not being a smartass when I ask that, legit just trying to get a better understanding of peoples issue with him.

I dislike the "I'll fight whoever they tell me" spiel. I prefer a fighter who says I'll fight whoever the fans want me to fight.

Its unfortunate that Santa Cruz does not take control of his career. He's getting older and time is running out to build a nice legacy.

Mares was never the same after being demolished in one round by Johnny Gonzalez, Frampton is good but VERY small (especially comparing to Leo), Kiko was shot, Avalos wasn't that good even at his best, but at the time he fought Leo he was KO'ed 3 times in his last 5 fights.
