i think for me is more the mentality of fighters once they get in there callum smith was a big shock the way he thought, fighters dont seem to want to go toe to toe with canelo which at some point during the fight is going to happen

I had mercy on Plant and gave him that one, and one late. But arguably, Canelo won every round. Plant was just getting credit for flicking out a jab and moving well, but not much of what he was doing was actually effective.

It's not a coincidence that Clenelo either loses, loses but his judges bail him out, or struggles badly every single time he's faced an A or B level athletic talent who possesses genuine speed and slickness. There's not a chance in hell he could ever beat Usyk, Loma or Crawford. In terms of athletic talent they're on a completely different level to him and it's not close.

Honestly I think Smith was fighting too low a weight. He looked frail compared to himself now. He fought bravely 6 rounds with 1 arm and despite the criticism he got he was far more game an honourable than someone like 1 punch quit BJS.

Key point is your last sentence.

Canelo is in charge. Hearn has no control.
He just had two fighters that he could feed to Canelo in Smith and Saunders. Going forward, Canelo will work with Showtime.

Oscar created a monster and that monster turned on him.

Eddie Hearn also kept feeding the monster and that monster did a U-turn and got a better deal.

When a promoter gets too greedy this is what happens - Canelo checkmated all of them. I hope he has autonomy in his new PBC/Showtime contract.

He certainly learned from Floyd. Mad mad mad respect to Canelo for this alone

Very interesting fight as Benavidez is very skilled at using his hands to block and keep shorter fighters at bay, while at the same time exploding with crazy leveraged shots, and he mixes them well. Plant was able to land some body shots and he wasn't even committed. On the other hand, Canelo loves fighters that just come to him, and has faster crisper hands than Benavidez. Love to see that fight next.

I'm not that sold on Benavidez... He's young at 24 years of age and should get better.

Can he take the shots Canelo will land? He went down against Ronald Gavril when he was wide open to be hit. He's fought average opponents since. He won a SD i thought he lost in the first fight against Gavril and went the distance with him in the second.

I don't think he's ready for Canelo yet even this lathargic version who sprung to life late on in the fight.

I would be VERY surprised to see that with Benavidez - he seems spiteful, and just LOVES to fight - I think he's the kind of guy that would rather get blown out on his shield, but put everything into it.

Smith never had much of a chance against Canelo, far too basic a fighter - and a ghost at the weight too - surprised his shrunken Gollum-body actually got through all 12!

Last year most people on here said the toughest opponents that Canelo would face and lose to were Saunders or Plant. Now that he smoked both of them people say they were C class fighters and no good. Now to “prove his worth” ,according to Canelo haters, he has to go up fight Bivol or Beterbiev. He is the smaller guy in there now. He breaks them down and finishes them off consistently . There is no one in his weight class who could endure the way he breaks them down.
