You've clearly forgotten how to score a fight properly and objectively ... if you ever knew how to do so in the first place, that is. :sisi1

Just watched for a 2nd time

Plant offered practically nothing in offence

But in all honesty Canelo looked off last night, quite sluggish

Now i will credit some of that to Plant's defence but i wonder if he was trying to force a finish in anticipation of unifying

As I said if he looked bad perhaps that was to do with Plant’s skills. Also it’s not the first time he has looked off against skillful boxers. Essentially at his core which I noticed the first time I saw him fight live Canelo is boxer counter punch so while he has got better at bringing the heat and being a come forward aggressive type that is not him at his core hence swinging wildly and missing.

I expect nothing less from a Canelo fan. Let’s pretend Plant was a HOF candidate because Canelo beat him. Plant was a decent scalp, nothing more. He had zero chance of winning. Canelo did what he was supposed to do. Not a bad victory but it does nothing to elevate his status. He lost rounds and looked less than PFP for much of the fight.

Ward had no chin. He was knocked down by a Kov jab and gifted the first fight decision. He ain’t winning a gift against Canelo.

Said the teapot to the kettle. I am biased towards Canelo I won't deny it, but you saying Canelo isn't top 5 pound for pound is ridiculous.

It was a right hand that made him touch down.

Andre showed a very good chin overall, and being dropped by a fearsome hitter like Kovalev (or even a Darnell Boone, early on in his career, like Canelo was rocked by the inferior Cotto brother) doesn't disprove that.

Canelo would require a robbery in that one, and not a mere gift, because Ward would nullify and confuse and handily outpoint him. Bad matchup for ol' Cinnamon.

He seemed to have a bit too little respect for Plant, just tried to walk him down behind a high guard without using the jab to disrupt Plant's rhytm and give him something more to think about. He threw his first jab in round four. From there on he started using it a bit, though, but not any real hooking off it or hooking off a jab feint.

He looked like he didn't take it completely seriously. Maybe the least focussed performance I've seen from him actually.

You are right! He’s a top fighter. Maybe not the top fighter but he deserves consideration and makes a good argument for top spot.

    Of course.

In fairness, upon revision, it struck me that 8–2 either way is about equally amiss.

How exactly is it illogical or a stretch to get to a 8-2 score for Canelo? At best Plant won two rounds, there's 2 others that were somewhat close. So anything in the range if 6-4 to 8-2 is perfectly acceptable. However, in no way should it be considered controversial or egregious of someone gave them to Canelo. If anything, people who gave them to Plant, were looking for sympathy rounds to had out.

Also mathematically... To be "equally amiss" to go 8-2 either way you'd have to be starting from a position where the midpoint (5-5) is the most reasonable score - that's absolute nonsense.
