Yeah I never really thought that about Canelo 'til it was pointed on here regarding him being a prima donna. I guess the Atlantic gap nuances were lost on me. I always assumed that Mexicans were always based street kids who remained humble but I can see the error in that with Alvarez, who has been groomed for stardom essentially from 15 up and probably knew he was heading for greatness in a sense way before that.

Not saying that hasn't come with its own significant challenges of course, but I'm working on the assumption he's a near living God in Mexico and amongst Latino/as in America generally...

Yeah, no, they run the socioeconomic gamut, just like us. Marco Antonio Barrera is among my all-time favorite boxers, yet he came from an undeniably comfortable (if not luxurious) middle-class existence and was never some urchin that fought his way up from necessity. He was a sort of anomaly, just a young kid who liked to fight simply for the sake of glory. He was all set up to go to law school and everything but chose the ring life instead.

He was never a precious little diva like Canelo is.

Ahh yes, good shout I remember reading that about Barrera. Also, JMM similar if I recall.

You are so wrong here IB
No Diva fights GGG the destroyer especially twice in a row. And that first fight GGG was 35, on the way down, but still damn near his prime.
And now hes fighting Jacobs, the 6ft1 switch hitting beast. No Diva gets in the ring with these guys

Eh, not buying that logic. If there's one thing every modern era boxing fan can agree on, regardless of whether a super-fan or hater of either guy, it would be that Amir Khan and Miguel Cotto are both massive divas. Both fought a rogue's gallery, absolute murderer's row - and yet they are both still 110% pussy-ass divas.

Both states (willing to routinely fight the best & being a punk bitch) can simultaneously coexist, they're not mutually exclusive - there's plenty of precedent. :deal:

Canelo on points. I can only imagine a world where Jacobs wins without getting a knockout as existing in some alternative universe that is quite different from our own world.
