    I think because Ryder, while he is a gritty and determined competitor with a lot of nice intangibles, just doesn't have the 1-punch KO power to put much faith in him upsetting Canelo, and is a little too familiar & basic for him stylistically. Most of Canelo's struggles that we have seen came against slicksters-cum-speedsters especially but in almost every case master boxers - something Ryder just isn't. He is a very likeable and easy-to-root-for, brave & tough and reasonably heavy-handed somewhat awkward southpaw ham-and-egger - but at day's end a ham-and-egger nonetheless. Canelo's losses and hard nights at the office came when fighting the likes of Floyd Mayweather Jr., Erislandy Lara, GGG, Austin Trout, Jacobs, Bivol, Plant, BJS etc.

    I adore Ryder but he isn't at the level of those above skill-wise. If he were a bigger hitter then maybe we could get excited about him forcing an uncomfortable brawl and clipping Álvarez with something in an exchange that'd instantly put his lights out, but I just don't know that he possesses that kind of equalizer.

    The one glimmer of hope is that Ryder does like to wreck the body and Canelo has been hurt downstairs a few times...

    :deal:

    I'd say Ryder is even less inclined to actually outbox Canelo than Amir Khan (whom I left off the list in my last post because he is a tier below most of them himself, although he still fit the recipe of having excellent hand speed and/or ring IQ, with the weaker attribute being at least decent) - but obviously Ryder doesn't face the disadvantages Khan did of being severely outsized and outgunned, nor is he overcome by St. Vitus' Dance whenever his chin gets tickled. :sisi1

    Ryder says this is his time. He is confident. He deserves to be in the same ring with Canelo. Ryder is a forward combative fighter. Canelo is a forward counter puncher, not sure Canelo is favored here based on styles. Canelo is inside his comfort zone chasing his prey. He will not have to search for Ryder. So that will be interesting to see how Canelo deal with that pressure. Canelo is also past his prime and arguably lost his last two fights. We have to be careful with that overwhelming one sided prediction for Canelo. I think he wins this but just because there is level to this game and he is just the superior fighter. But the 9 to 1 odds is perhaps exaggerated. An upset is not impossible.

    More interesting in Gvodzyk vs Bolotniks than the main event.

    Kovalev got stopped vs. Ward and Alvarez before Canelo. Yildirim got stopped vs. Eubank Jr before he fought Canelo.

    Do your homework before spouting big paragraphs I stopped reading there.

    Lol who picked Ryder on points decision in Canelo’s hometown?!
    YDKSAB! :risas3::nono::qmeparto:

    High probability Nelo by stoppage
    Ryder won’t stop coming forward & won’t be content to just survive 12 Rnds he is coming to win or get KTFO.

    Oh, did you? That's so interesting. Everybody really, truly cares about when iceferg stopped reading.

    Numpty, you don't even understand wtf you're quoting. Maybe look before you leap off a cliff next time. Particularly when fussing about correcting others, no?

    I literally never said a thing about whether Kovalev had been stopped prior to when he fought Canelo, nor whether Yıldırım had been stopped prior to when he fought Canelo. The "same that could have been said" in question referred to me asking on the line above if Ryder had ever been down. Now granted, I'd forgotten about Kovalev's flash knockdown at the hands of Caparello (and there was long the rumor that Darnell Boone got him in their first encounter, although no footage of it has existed for years) - and tbf I never saw Eubank Jr. vs. Yıldırım; apparently he did put him down when it was stopped after wailing on him for a while, but to my knowledge that's the only KD for the limited Turk.

    OH WELL, of four guys I named, two had a couple of knockdowns between them that I didn't happen to remember off the top of my head.

    "Do my homework"... miserable *****, casting stones from Chateau Illiteracy.
